Kent House to recognize advocates of addiction recovery at name change ceremony
Nearly 100 advocates, elected officials and clients are expected to gather at the State House for the unveiling of the organization’s new name and advertising campaign and to celebrate those who have made significant contributions in the fight for addiction awareness. Craig Stenning, director of the Department of Mental Health, Retardation & Hospitals will keynote the event, discussing the changes and evolution of the mental health system in Rhode Island as well as the effect of a difficult economy.
To celebrate the past 30 years, Kent House will recognize five individuals for their advocacy, strength and voice on behalf of those coping with the disease of addiction. U.S. Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy will receive the Legislative Advocacy Award; Senate President M. Teresa Paiva Weed will be honored with the Advocate Award; former Representatives Russell Bramley and Neil Corkery, executive director of the Drug and Alcohol Treatment Association (DATA), will receive Groundbreaker Awards; and Victoria Quinn and her family will be honored with the Courage Award. Additionally, Charles Cicero will receive recognition as an outstanding Kent House volunteer.
