The 2nd Annual Rhode Island Energy Expo will be held at the Warwick Mall this Saturday, Sept. 12, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The event, which is sponsored by Beacon Communications, focuses on products and ways that Rhode Islanders can acquire and utilize to save energy this fall and winter. Vendors, representing oil companies, replacement window companies, alternative energy suppliers and banks, will have booths and other displays at the event.

The expo will also feature speakers, who will share energy saving tips between 11 a.m. and noon, and then again from 1 to 2 p.m.

“This thing is designed for all Rhode Island residents looking for ways to save energy for their entire house or small business,” said Hank Adams, one of the Expo’s organizers, who is also a sales representative for the Bell/Simons Companies. “Also to help them become aware of new products available to them that will save money and energy.”

Adams is a speaker as well, and as the author of “The Energy Page,” will offer guests information on these new products, including outdoor boiler reset controls, which he says, respond to outdoor weather help to lower water boiling temperatures during the summer and on warmer winter days.

Other products include indirect water heaters, which provide hot water without furnaces and boilers being kept on. These heaters work by storing hot water in a tank. Water is held at the owner’s set temperature through a heating coil that is charged by the boiler.

Ted Garille, the general manager for Pascoag Utility will provide information on solar panels and Dan Leonard, the marketing manager for Anchor Insulation, will also address the audience. The list of speakers is rounded out by Victor Allienello of the National Association of Oil Heating Service Managers. His presentation will focus on oil and the impact from Washington on consumer costs.

Bottom line, Adams said, the object is to educate consumers so that they can reduce their energy impact.

“I teach energy saving to all of my clients,” he said.

Adams said that, often times, energy can be conserved and money saved simply through the proper installation of equipment. Such equipment that is often improperly installed includes electronic components like boiler and air conditioner controls.
