Norman Elof Jacobson celebrated his 100th birthday Saturday with a party at Ethan Place Assisted Living, Warwick. Born in 1909 in the Pontiac section of Warwick, Norman graduated Warwick High School later to be known as Lockwood High in 1927. He and his father opened a gas station on the corner of Main and Greenwich Avenue in the 1930s that Norman operated until he retired in the 1960s. He married Marguerite deWildt in 1935 and they raised three children together: Sonya, Carol and Carl Jacobson. Norman and Marguerite were married for 51 years until her passing in 1986. He is the grandfather of eight as well as a great-grandfather to 13. He is a member of the Manchester Lodge and became a Master Mason of King Solomon s Lodge in 1933 making him a member for the past 63 years, a member of Scottish Rite, Palestine Shrine, Adah Chapter #15 and was initiated into the Order the Easter Star. Norman spent most of his retirement in West Greenwich near Lake Mishnock. He enjoyed riding bikes and was part of the Coventry Senior Center lunch program and participated in West Greenwich Happy Senior activities. Norman was full of happiness Saturday, wearing a birthday grin and saying, "I could still ride a bike, you know? I just have to make sure my legs are strong enough first, to push the petals." He shared his 100th celebration with the residents of Ethan Place and his children.
