Men’s Basketball
The No. 9 ranked (NJCAA DII pre-season poll) CCRI Knights men’s basketball team traveled to Worcester, Mass. this week and came away with a 98-83 win over the Wyverns of Quinsigamond Community College. With the victory the Knights improve to 3-1 on the season and 2-0 in Region XXI play.
Four Knights scored in double-figures led by Colin Burns (Chepachet), who finished with 19 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Co-Captain Dave Storti (Exeter) added 17 points, six steals and four assists while Pat Sturdahl (Exeter) contributed 17 points, five steals and three assists. Johnny Stovall (Bridgeport, Conn.) charted his second double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds and TJ McKiver (New Haven, Conn.) scored nine points with a career-high 19 rebounds.
“This was a solid Region XXI road victory,” said CCRI head coach Rick Harris. “They are very tough and our young men matched their effort and intensity.”
The Knights will host Region XXI rival Dean College in their text game tonight at 8 p.m. at the Vincent A Cullen Fieldhouse located on the CCRI Knight Campus in Warwick.
Women’s Basketball
The CCRI women put together a one-sided 87-18 victory over the Bees of Bristol Community College last week. Six Lady Knights scored in double-figures, led by Erica Pisaturo’s (Smithfield) game-high 19 points, followed by Ashley Fry (South Kingstown, RI) with 14 points and eight rebounds and Lori Bergeron (Jaffrey, N.H.) with 12 points.
Cassie Novicky (New Milford, Conn.) also had a big game with 10 points, two blocks and four steals, while Lauren Gonsalves (Harwich, Mass.) and Michaela Lima (Cranston) charted career-highs with 10 points each. Rajvi Jarvis (Stratford, Conn.) led the Lady Knights with 12 rebounds and added three steals.
“It was a nice win and it is good to see some of our hard work paying off,” said head coach Kevin Monagle. “Holding a team to 18 points is a nice defensive effort, but we need to keep improving.”
The Lady Knights improved to 1-1 in Region XXI play with the win and will host Dean College tonight at 6 p.m. The men’s game will tip-off immediately following.
