The mayor keeps telling the press that the city meets the new state pension reform requirements. Those new requirements eliminate pensions for part-time employees who are also elected officials. So, this whole idea of giving pensions to the city council should immediately be terminated.

As I tried to explain to the Vella-Wilkinson's committee there are some very negative aspects to awarding pensions to City Council members. Since they are part-time employees then all part-time employees should get the same deal ... life guards, interns, etc.

The city should not award pensions to the bosses (the City Council) without also awarding them to the other part timers. Members of the committee pointed out that this discrimination could occur because the city council were elected officials. But, pensions are for employees, not elected officials. The reason why the council members can get pensions is because they are employees. Since they are part time employees, then the city should give pensions to all part time employees.

Where does the awarding of pensions to part timers end?
