It's funny, these announcements are made but there are never any charts. The current rate of sea level rise over the last 20 years or so is about 1/8" per year. That's about a foot a century and its very similar to last century and the one before that. And if you looked at a chart of the actual data over the last 20 years, the rate of sea level rise is actually slowing, not increasing over the last 6 years.. http://climate4you.com/images/UnivColorado%20MeanSeaLevelSince1992%20With1yrRunningAverage.gif

As as far as the water warming so much, we are on the warm side of the north Atlantic multi decadenal oscillation so a bit of warmth now is to be expected. If it behaves as it has in the past, the cold part of the cycle will arrive in 10-15 years. The Pacific cycle changed from its warm phase to its cold phase a few years back and last year Anchorage Alaska had its snowiest winter on record. Enjoy the moderate weather while you've got it, it will soon pass.
