Attention acting School Superintendent D'Agostino: quit acting. So what that the moratorium on school building will be lifted in 2014, Warwick has a declining school enrollment. This should NOT be a touchy issue. By reducing the number of schools & consolidating/combining educational services Warwick will receive more bang for its educational dollars. Stop kicking the can down the road! We would all like schools to be in our neighborhoods, next door to us, but unfortunately it's just NOT feasible. Warwick's enrollment can only expect to further reduce with Green Airport runway expansion. If Warwick has fewer than half the enrollment it had during 1968-69 it seems apparent that a high school & a junior/middle school needs to be closed in the next 3 years(at least by the time of runway expansion completion). As a model, just study Cranston;similar size & enrollment & it operates on a two high school system at a SIGNIFICANT LOWER BUDGET. And please, don't say that Warwick has unique student issues as compared with other school systems. Each school system has its own challenges. It's time for the Warwick School Committee/Education System to make some decisions.
