I remember this house as being run by the Kings Daughters and Sons. It was a home for the elderly and I visited many times during the 1940's. One of my mother's schoolteachers lived there with her sister in the large second story room on the left corner as you face the building. My mother would send my sister and me to visit them and to take cookies or other treats. She didn't want to go herself, as the retired teacher still had the capacity to scare her former students!

I remember walking up the front steps, knocking on the door and waiting to be admitted by Mrs. Whipple - I believe she was the matron - who always wore a white uniform. We would walk up the huge stairway to the second floor to visit.

On our way out Mrs. Whipple would sometimes invite us thru the dining room and into the kitchen for a cookie. There was a kitchen helper there who had the brightest red hair I'd ever seen.

Just a few memories from my childhood in Pawtuxet. We lived on S. Atlantic Ave.
