10th ALS walk is Sunday at Confreda Sports Complex

The ALS Association Rhode Island Chapter's 10th Annual “Walk To Defeat ALS” will be held this Sunday at Confreda Sports Complex, Bend Street, Warwick. Registration begins at 11:00 a.m. with the Walk starting at 12:00 noon. Mike Montecalvo, WPRI TV Anchor will emcee the event and be joined by Walk Chairman, Patrick O’Brien, RI Chapter President, John Pagliarini and Mayor Scott Avedisian to kick-off the walk.

The Walk to Defeat ALS, a National ALS Association Signature Event, was created 12 years ago in efforts to raise awareness and funds for the local Chapters of the ALS Association.

Local patient and family services provided by the RI Chapter include patient advocacy, home visits, respite care, support groups, handicapped transportation, equipment loans and multidisciplinary medical care at the Chapter sponsored Louise Wilcox ALS Clinic in Providence.

Gold sponsor of the walk is United Healthcare. Bronze sponsors are Kent Hospital, Scotia Capital and Starkweather & Shepley. There will be lots of food and fun for “kids” and walkers of all ages with music provided by Vibe Wire, a bouncy house and a huge raffle.

For more information or to register or donate to our Walk, please call Taylor Butzbach at the ALS Association – R. I. Chapter, (401) 732-1609, or visit the Rhode Island Chapter’s Walk Website at www.walkri.org.
