Toll Gate and Pilgrim will have a difficult time topping their inaugural Thanksgiving bout.
The crosstown rivals battled down the stretch, culminating in a seven-minute, game-winning drive capped off by junior quarterback Anthony Vann’s 1-yard plunge. The Titans stymied a potential Pilgrim comeback drive at midfield to claim the first-ever Warwick Beacon Bowl title.
“Most definitely this was the best game of the season,” Vann, who accounted for all four Toll Gate scores, said. “We were fired up these past two weeks because we had the bye. We came out to win, we weren’t coming out and losing this.”
It was the Titans’ first win on Thanksgiving since upending Hendricken, 17-12, back in 1991.
