21 child adoptions highlight National Adoption Day ceremony this Saturday

Rhode Island Family Court Chief Judge Michael B. Forte and the Rhode Island Judiciary will celebrate the 16th National Adoption Day this Saturday starting at 9 a.m. at Family Court at the Kent County Court House.

The celebration “Where You Belong” will coincide with events being planned across the United States on this day to draw attention to the adoption process and the large number of children available for adoption.

The court will finalize 21 adoptions with 19 different families. Many sponsors and community agencies have joined in the celebration.

Many local sponsors are involved in the event including Dunkin Brands; HASBRO; Cardi Brothers; Pawtucket Red Sox; Adoption Rhode Island; Deb Bettencourt Photography; Kay Jewelers; Pepsi; Providence Bruins; Providence Children’s Museum; Roger Williams Park Zoo; Henry’s Tree Farm and many local restaurants and stores.

Each child that will have their adoption finalized will receive a special gift bag filled with toys, stuffed animals, a frame for a donated portrait of their new Forever Family; gift cards and certificates, etc.

Rhode Island Family Court Chief Judge Michael B. Forte and Kevin Aucoin, Acting Director of Department of Children, Youth and Families will address the assembly.

Billy Gilman will be singing at the opening remarks. Special guests include Ron and Pete Cardi and Roger and Rich Fournier-Machado, who will talk about their family’s experience with adoption.
