Elementary schools set to close plan 'goodbye bashes'

Posted

Saying goodbye to years of memories, history and teachers deserves a celebration to be remembered for years to come.

After this year, John Brown Francis, Randall Holden and John Wickes elementary schools will close for good, with students being moved to other schools in the city. The schools have planned events to commemorate the history of the establishments and the people who have made the schools full of fun and learning for so many years.

As of press time, students of John Brown Francis Elementary School, kindergarten through sixth grade planned to stage a patriotic show Wednesday at Pilgrim High School organized by chorus teacher, Kirsty Pracaccianti. Each grade will sing songs individually with a finale sung by all students at the end. Following the performances will be a slideshow of the history of the school.

John Brown Francis’s PTA has also planned a Family Night which will take place on June 8 and is not open to the public. PTA president Liz Gambuto said that the family night would include activities such as laser tag, slides, a bouncy house, photo booth, ice cream truck, rock wall, and a DJ. The event will be held at the school.

A field day for the students has also been planned to occur on June 11 at Goddard Park. The students will spend the day playing games at the park and will be supplied with a lunch for the day.

Randall Holden Elementary School is also planning a large Goodbye Bash, for Friday, June 1 at 7:00 p.m. The event will be held at the school and will include access to food trucks, face painting and a balloon artist. There will also be a movie showing at dusk. Families, students and graduated students are encouraged to attend and bring lawn chairs and blankets for the movie.

An event on June 1 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. will be held to say goodbye to John Wickes Elementary School. Kona Ice and Haven Brothers food trucks will be at the event. The event will also have a DJ, face painting, a balloon artist and a photo booth for the children to enjoy.

It's heartbreaking to see these Warwick landmarks close their doors. It just shows the dire need to increase our population. In the last ten years Warwick has lost 5,800 taxpayers. (according to the U.S. Census, verified by The Warwick Beacon)

We NEED to turn this around. Whoever becomes Mayor in 2019, this issue should be the most important one to address.

    Happy Summer everyone.

"It's heartbreaking to see these Warwick landmarks close their doors," writes the make-believe mayor, who apparently would rather continue paying for half-empty schools and all of the costs associated with it.

"In the last ten years Warwick has lost 5,800 taxpayers. (according to the U.S. Census, verified by The Warwick Beacon)."

This is a lie. The make-believe mayor is ignoring actual a verifiable Census information that shows a decrease of 4,200 residents -- not 5,800.

Here is the link -- again -- to that data: https://bit.ly/2slKIKd

His false claim was never "verified by The Warwick Beacon." It was reported as a claim of his but never independently confirmed by the newspaper.

The make-believe mayor's continued lies are one of the many defects that honest, taxpaying voters recognize in him, and they will respond by overwhelmingly rejecting his candidacy at the earliest opportunity.

    Rick,

I've seen you use that data before and I have some questions. First, 5800 residents is not the same as 5800 taxpayers. Second, to which taxes are you referring when you mention payers? Surely, you're not suggesting that all of the 5800 paid property taxes. And many do not pay income taxes. Probably best to say Warwick's population dropped in the last ten years and leave it at that.

    Dear JohnStark,

I respect your comments. I always have.

But directly or indirectly, I believe that ALL residents are taxpayers, therefore 5,800 "people", in my opinion, are 5,800 "taxpayers". I have no way of calculating which ones are direct taxpayers and which are taxpayers through their parents, but since they all are affected, they are all, in my opinion, "taxpayers", whether it is real estate taxes, personal property taxes or any other tax that Warwick receives revenue from.

Thank you for your intelligent comments however. Good to hear from you again.

    Happy Summer John.

    Happy Summer everyone.

Thank you, JohnStark for helping to expose the delusions behind the make-believe mayor's lies.

First, he has no objective information that supports his claim of 5,800 taxpayers leaving Warwick -- and, in fact, ignores the factual and objective information provided above.

Second, he falsely calls all residents "taxpayers" when he acknowledges that not all of them actually pay taxes.

Don't let his attempts at flattery deceive you. He is lying and seeking someone, anyone, who considers his statements anything other than the lies that they are.

His humiliating defeat in the next election can not happen soon enough.

Readers should also note how the make-believe mayor treats the suggestion by JohnStark, who is presumably a taxpayer that the make-believe mayor claims to represent: Not by correcting his false statements or showing any ability to understand the advice, but by repeating his lies and essentially insisting that his perspective is the only one that matters to him.

Honest, taxpaying voters will not support such a close-minded, arrogant candidate, and will overwhelmingly reject the make-believe mayor at the earliest opportunity.
