370 missed votes since 1/1/11

To the Editor:

As a resident and voter in Rhode Island District 23, is it too much to ask my Representative, Robert Flaherty, to do the job he was elected to do? According to www.rhodeislandvotes.org, Mr. Flaherty has missed 370 votes from Jan. 1, 2011 until Feb. 7, 2012. To put that into perspective, 76 missed votes was the average of all 75 Representatives. Missed votes included bills introduced, amendments offered and roll call votes.
Mr. Flaherty missed such important votes as revising legislative districts (2/12), amending the pension system (11/11), voter identification requirements (6/11) and education funding amendments (6/10).
With the pressing issues that face the voters of District 23 and all Rhode Islanders, I believe we must demand the very best from our Representatives. Three hundred and seventy missed votes? Mr. Flaherty, you have let down the residents of District 23. Mr. Flaherty, you have let down Rhode Islanders. I will not accept this!

John Falkowski
