The West Warwick Health Equity Zone and Westbay Community Action’s WIC Program will host five “Pop-Up” farmers markets in West Warwick. These markets will take place in the parking lot of the West Warwick Senior Center, 145 Washington St., West Warwick from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 20, August 17, September 7 and October 19. There will also be a market hosted by the West Warwick Public Library, 1043 Main St., West Warwick on August 3.
The farmers markets in West Warwick aim at improving social and environmental conditions that negatively affect health as being additional access points in underserved areas. All of the markets accept WIC, SNAP and senior vouchers. Shoppers can also receive $2 extra for every $5 they spend using their WIC and SNAP benefits.
“This is a great opportunity to partner with another local non-profit from West Warwick, as we are hoping to make sure that families in the community have access to fresh produce for nutritional balanced meals helping to keep them healthy,” Paul Salera, President/CEO of Westbay Community Action stated.
“These “Pop Up” Farmers markets are great ways for the community to shop a variety of fresh foods, enjoy family activities and receive extra money for fresh fruits and vegetables with the bonus bucks program” said Victor Arias, West Warwick Health Equity Zone Program Manager at Thundermist.
