Colonel Ann C. Assumpico, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Director of the Department of Public Safety, presided at a graduation ceremony for the Rhode Island Municipal Police Training Academy Class of 2018-2 held Dec. 20. Of the 51 graduates, eight will serve in Warwick.

The graduation ceremony for the 131st graduating class was held at the Community College of Rhode Island Flanagan Campus in Lincoln, where the gymnasium was packed with law enforcement officials from local, state and federal agencies and family members and friends of the graduating class. Colonel Assumpico, Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin and Jamestown Police Chief Edward Mello, chairman of the Rhode Island Police Officers Commission on Standards and Training (POST), addressed the graduates.

The graduation marked the end of 22-week training program that began in July, with a curriculum that includes the Rhode Island General Laws and Motor Vehicle Code, as well as training in specific areas of police work from operating emergency vehicles to dealing with active shooter situations.

The following graduates will serve in the Warwick Department: Johnathan H. DiPietro, Jordan P. Guyton, Derek J. Hagopian, Bruce D. Law, Jessica L. Masso, Tyler J. Mobrice, Frank J. Montanaro and Kevin P. Warren.

The eight were among the 10 who took the oath of office as probationary officers in a ceremony held Dec. 18 in Warwick City Hall.
