A Christmas Carol at the Artists` Exchange

Adapted and directed by Jessica Chace, this year's “A Christmas Carol” at the Artists’ Exchange is set in modern day America and examines the human connection with surprises and twists and turns along the way. Marley's a woman; Scrooge and Marley's partnership runs deeper; Freddie's marriage is unconventional and the Cratchits have new family dynamics. Music Director Tom Chace has created all original music, a playful, modern take on beloved classics and contemporary carols.

“This year we're shaking things up,” said Jessica Chace, the show’s director. “Above all, our production revolves around human connection. Our distracted society and 20th century lives are obsessed with “being connected” 24/7. But are we really connecting?”

"Inclusion and opportunity are at the heart of Artists' Exchange – and at the heart of this production. Tom and I love working creatively alongside so many talented people every year, from veteran stage actors to first-time children actors. It's always a wild ride, and always worth the bumps and bruises," said Chace.

The Artists' Exchange's 13th Annual production of “A Christmas Carol” is a fresh retelling that opens Thursday, Dec. 8 at Theatre 82 and runs through Sunday, Dec. 11 in the intimate Black Box Theatre. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door, available for purchase online (www.artists-exchange.org), by phone (490-9475), or in person (50 Rolfe Square, Cranston).
