A boost for small business

Over 1,000 people attended Warwick Food Truck Night last Thursday. The event was a great way for the community to come together. Being able to see old friends and meet new ones, all while eating great food, listening to music, and supporting local businesses, made for a fun night.

In the scorching heat, a long line formed in front of one of the ice cream trucks. I spoke with the truck's owner who lives in Warwick; she was thrilled to serve so many customers.

Working for the Chamber of Commerce, I am aware of many of the challenges facing small business owners today. I am running for City Council to advocate for our small business community. I believe elected officials considering changes in the regulatory environment or considering adding additional taxes or fees must carefully weigh the impact their decisions have on local business owners.

The success of Warwick's small businesses improves our city as a whole. I am eager to help create an environment in which small businesses will thrive, giving more people the confidence to start or move their company to Warwick. More revenue leads to more jobs, which leads to more potential homebuyers, which leads to cleaner, safer neighborhoods.

I applaud the city for hosting Food Truck Night, and I hope we continue to find opportunities to support small businesses.

Steve McAllister

Democrat Candidate for City Council

Ward 7
