A call to support Question 5

To the Editor:

On Election Day, Rhode Islanders will be asked to vote on Question 5, which would authorize a $35 million bond to support our states local arts community, and help continue to fund the successful State Preservation Grant program. I am writing to urge my fellow Cranston residents to vote yes.

I’m an actress and producer, and my husband is a graphic designer with clients in the arts and historic communities, so this bond may potentially affect our future livelihood. But it will also directly impact the futures of many of your Cranston friends and neighbors.

If Question 5 is approved, it will fund renovations and restorations at some of the state’s most popular arts facilities and historic sites, creating thousands of jobs – in particular within the construction industry, an industry that has struggled terribly over the last several years.

This means we will be able to invest in an economic engine that generates more than $200 million each year for our economy statewide.

Even if you have never stepped foot in a theater, and don’t plan on changing that any time soon, I hope you will stand with me on November 4 and vote yes on Question 5 to create jobs and continue the revitalization of our towns’ resources.
