A child’s theme for some senior art

Posted

More than 100 graduating Vets seniors gathered outside the school yesterday to draw pictures on sidewalks, lounge in lawn chairs, listen to music and even barbecue some hotdogs. With the sun shining, it couldn’t have been a better day for it. And not to mention it was all for a good cause.

This sidewalk drawing tradition, going back 12 years and now coordinated by art teacher Karen Larson, started merely as a fun way to end the school year, but since student Kory Kenyan died in a car crash in 2009 it serves as a fundraiser for a Kenyan memorial scholarship. In order to fund-raise the money, students were asked to pay $5 to participate in the sidewalk drawing. This year, the theme for the drawings focused on children’s books and movies, including The Three Little Pigs, Lilo & Stitch, Curious George and Clifford, just to name a few.
