A dozen reasons to dine at these restaurants

One of the joys of life is leisurely dining at your favorite restaurant.

Over the years, we have identified many favorite restaurants and, more specifically, items on the menu that draw us to them.

Have you tried the meatloaf at 2 Pauls?

How about the bison burgers at Ted’s Montana Grill?

We not only have our favorite restaurants, like Twin Oaks and Lemongrass, we also have our favorite items that we automatically order when we go there.

Here’s our Top 12.

Governor Francis Inn-Warwick: A side of carrots and turnips like mom used to make. Actually, better than Mom used to make.

J.P. Spoonem’s-Cranston: Homemade corned beef hash. And they just added salmon hash to the menu.

Bonefish Grill-Cranston: Bang Bang Shrimp. We’re not sure how they make the sauce, but it is addictive.

Carrabbas-Warwick: Sausage and Lentil soup – a must to start the evening.

Angelo’s-Providence: Fried eggplant. It’s a special, so call ahead to see if they have it.

Lemongrass-Warwick: Crispy pork. Our son comes from Connecticut just to get the crunchy, tasty treat.

Poco Loco-Cranston: Shrimp PoBoys. Again, it’s a special, so call ahead.

O’Rourkes-Warwick: Irish Nachos. Crispy potato chips loaded with salsa and a few surprises.

Little Falls-Cranston: Sticky Buns. Some people call them cinnamon buns, but they’re really sticky buns.

Matunuck Oyster Bar-East Matunuck: A Bloody Mary with an oyster.

Murphy’s-Providence: Best potato salad in the state.

Elizabeth at Portofino’s-Warwick: Fresh Italian bread with the entire cooked garlic.

One more for good measure: Everyone knows that the baked stuffed shrimp is super at Twin Oaks, but do you know that the regulars always order it with mashed potatoes in the middle.

What are your favorites? Let us know.
