A model that makes sense

To the Editor:

While the Warwick School Committee and the city of Warwick consider the closing of Veterans Memorial High School, I would suggest that they look at the model that the city used in the ’70s.

At that time, students who attended the Vocational School attended Toll Gate for their core classes as well. There were no early morning, midday and afternoon transportations of students between schools. This would give the students who may not be so academically inclined to the Common Core more instructional time and less time on the bus. These students “waste” an hour shuttling between schools. If we care about students and learning, and not about income and socioeconomic status, this would be the model that makes sense.
