After 'stormy' rescue, kitten needs a home

Posted

Warwick firefighters were recently reunited with one tiny life they saved in late August. “Stormy” the kitten got to meet his heroes Tuesday evening.

Stormy had been found stuck inside a storm drain outside of Gregg’s Restaurant on Post Road, and firefighters were called to the scene to rescue him.

Lieutenant David Andrews, Private Tim Bedard and Private Glenn Narodowy from Warwick’s Engine 8 said the kitten was trapped deep inside a pipe. The firefighters and nearby residents could not reach the terrified kitten on their own so had to use hoses to flush him out of the drain. When he leapt out, Narodowy caught him and he was brought to safety.

Later on, East Greenwich Animal Protection League aptly named him Stormy. Tammy Flanagan, executive director at EGAPL, said Stormy was afraid of humans at first, but that’s no longer the case.

On Tuesday, Stormy had no problem being passed around, appearing quite content as the firefighters held and pet him during Tuesday’s meeting.

Nobody is quite sure how Stormy found his way to the drain. Flanagan and EGAPL member Karen Kalunian think he may have been part of a litter that was abandoned. Despite being in fairly good health, they don’t believe he could have handled escaping the drain on his own.

“He would not have survived had he not been rescued,” Flanagan said.

Now that he’s received proper care, Stormy is ready for adoption.

“He deserves a second chance,” said Kalunian.

Stormy is still a little shy, but has an overall good disposition and loves to play with toys. His adoption fee is $140, which includes neutering and all vaccinations that are appropriate for his age at this time. Anyone interested in bringing him home can find all necessary information on the league’s website, www.egapl.com, their Facebook page, or contact the office at 943-6333.

“We’re just hoping he gets to a good home,” said Private Narodowy.
