Air Show enables $115,000 donation to Harbro Children’s Hospital

Posted

Joined by National Guard Association of Rhode Island (NGARI) colleagues, Denis Riel, president of NGARI, presented Hasbro Children’s Hospital with a donation of $115,000 on behalf of the Association on Tuesday, Dec. 2. The funds were raised during this year’s Rhode Island Air Show.

As tens of thousands of spectators descended upon the Quonset Air National Guard Base in North Kingstown on May 17 and 18 for the highly-anticipated return of the Air Show, members of the NGARI collected donations for Hasbro Children’s Hospital from guests, also choosing to donate the show’s voluntary parking contributions to the hospital. While the flying acrobatics of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and other top-performing aerial acts created lifelong memories for visitors of all ages, it’s the generosity of the NGARI and attendees that will touch the lives of Rhode Island’s youngest hospital patients.

“I am honored to represent 3,500 members of the Rhode Island National Guard in presenting this donation to Hasbro Children’s Hospital,” Denis Riel, president of NGARI said in a statement. “The Air Show is an event that all of our members look forward to being a part of because of how well it aligns with the core values of the Guard: to be part of our community and give back.”

For more than 20 years, the National Guard Association of Rhode Island, the non-government entity that runs the Air Show on the grounds of the Air National Guard installation, has raised money for local charities as part of the popular event. This year’s Air Show generated $214,000.
