To the Editor:
In the wake of the recent horrific shootings in California, make no mistake about it; our country is in the state of “Darkness.”
The recent front-page headline of the New York Post says it all: “GOD ISN’T FIXING THIS.” We don’t need prayers; we need gun controls and stricter laws.
The New York Post is right, God isn’t fixing this problem, which is plaguing our nation until we, as a nation, turn back to God and start praying again!
The “gun genie” is out of the bottle. Gun control and stricter gun laws don’t work. Chicago, California and Mexico have those in place and look what’s happening.
What does our country expect when we push God out the front door of our homes? Satan and evil fills the void, and comes in the back door. We need to turn back to God, get on our knees and pray! We need to pray to change hearts, minds and souls to stop this insanity.
“God will fix this,” if we sincerely ask him, in prayer. After all, prayer is more powerful than guns. We need peace, not more violence! Then we will see the LIGHT.
Remember, “God’s ways are not our ways.”

Dear Richard Walsh,
You're right. God gave us His greatest gift. The gift of "free will". God isn't going to fix this problem but rather than looking at the glass of water as being half-full, I suggest you read Robert Houghtaling's letter-to-the-editor. (same issue of the Beacon as your letter). His words inspired me. Hopefully they will inspire you as well.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.
