(Cyber crime/romance/

adventure flick)

Cyber terrorism has made it to the screen, but not without a major romance, lots of action and enough chases to fill two movies.

Chris Hemsworth stars as Nicholas Hathaway, a convict who is given a furlough to help a government team headed by Rhode Island’s Viola Davis catch the bad guys. Not only is Hathaway a complete computer ace, he’s one handsome dude and a great fighter.

The hackers, or Blackhats, have invaded a Hong Kong nuclear reactor and the good guys need to find out why and how and stop any further destruction. This leads to lots of computer psychobabble, car chases, gunfights and some clever photography showing the insides of computer systems, none of which most of us understand.

There’s a major romance between Nicholas and his former college roommate’s sister (Tang Wei) that develops quickly and dominates much of the movie, which runs a long two and a quarter hours.

The movie is pretty to watch, as the good guys fly from the USA to Hong Kong to Malaysia to Jakarta and other exotic places, also a step behind the bad guys. There’s an exciting, implausible showdown that results in many deaths before we learn why and how the Blackhats did what they did.

Rated R, with lots of violence, some profanity and a bit of sex. If you understand all the computer jargon, you’ll probably enjoy the movie more.
