BREAKING: Ragosta report released

Posted

The following is a copy of the report prepared by attorney Vincent Ragosta regarding how the Warwick School administration responded to parental complaints that a Gorton Junior High School teacher drew penises on the arms of their daughters in 2013. Ragosta delivered verbal reports to the School Committee last May. Since then the Beacon has sought to obtain copies of the transcripts of the verbal report on the basis that it is a public document. The committee refused to release the report and later after it obtained a copy with a subpoena, the City Council refused to make a copy available. In response to requests made by the Beacon and the Warwick Post, the Attorney General ruled the report a public document. What follows is the document obtained by the Beacon as redacted to protect the names of students and their parents. Since the report was not received until after noon Wednesday, the Beacon did not have the time to review it completely for a story in Thursday's edition. That will be published on Tuesday. The Ragosta Report has finally been released. I have just read it and some observations jump out.

First, 92 pages and that is just the summary! That ain't a verbal report folks! Jennifer Ahearn tried to sweep this under the rug with comments under oath such as "I have not reviewed any of this testimony." (pg. 35 line 21) and "We are not going to do anything further." (pg. 66 line 9). She deceived us when she said the report was "all verbal" when 92 pages of transcribed testimony certainly is a written document.

Vincent Ragosta suggested (on page 66 line 20) that "it would be helpful if you at least think of formulating a policy." Smart man. Great idea. Sad that Ahearn, Nadeau, Mederous , Furtado, or Healey didn't care enough about our students to think of this themselves. Seems more than obvious to me. One last comment: Karen Bachus said "This is a zero-tolerance issue. I would call for termination." (pg 41 line 16). I believe that is your starting point. The safety of our children ais still in your hands, and to be honest, you blew it! Please don't do it again!

I as a parent of a child involved in this ordeal.. Have zero satisfaction. Thank god for Jeff Taylor, seems everyone is looking out for themselves, not our children. You read the report I lived it! And still to today I do, why? Because the school administration failed to act or even investigate? So D'agastino retires? Mullen moves to a different school system? WHY? Healy is removed. None of you watched the tears.. Or heard the I hate you's because the "popular" teacher did something that we as parents felt was inappropriate. I'd ask everyone if this would this have been acceptable? When I called, concerned because Jeff Taylor the only concerned party said "I'm sorry I've done all I can do, it's in the hands of the administration now" and Mr. Mullen says I'm sorry this is a personnel matter I can only tell you we've done all we can.. I voice my displeasure about the teacher remaining in her school.. His advice is get a lawyer? Really? No wonder it took the AG to get the report public. You're debacle was at our expense. Your career over my child? I think not, sorry you felt this wasn't an incident. Sorry the other mom and I felt our children deserved better. You're failure is so obvious, it's absurd.

Congratulations Ms. Furtado...Your last Chairmanship created all of these issues when you teamed up with Healey to destroy the reputation of the previous superintendent and send him packing (with full pay and benefits) got his assistant removed and then put in your Hand picked losers. D'Agostino, Mullen, and LaPlante. Now you're back in control again. Good luck to everyone with you back in charge. I'm sure your past leadership skills and decision making will guide the district through the coming consolidation and teacher's contract.
