Bank fraud suspect in custody

Posted

A man wanted in connection with a bank fraud scheme in Johnston is in custody.

Johnston police report that James J. Pesaturo Jr., 32, turned himself in last week. A warrant had been issued for his arrest on a charge of obtaining money under false pretenses.

Authorities allege that Pesaturo deposited 13 checks from various financial institutions, totaling $9,000, into three separate accounts at the TD Bank branch at 1547 Atwood Ave. in Johnston. He is then said to have withdrawn cash prior to the checks – all written on previously closed accounts – being returned to the bank.

Detective Anthony Sasso investigated the matter.
