With the heart of the holiday season right around the corner, Bank Rhode Island (BankRI) is set to begin its 18th annual Holiday Giving Tree program this Friday, with the goal of brightening the holidays for underprivileged children.
Through the Holiday Giving Tree, each of BankRI’s 19 branches statewide partner with local nonprofits to grant the holiday gift wishes of local children in need. All BankRI branches will display a Holiday Giving Tree in its lobby, decorated with ornaments that include the name, age and wish list of children served by the Bank’s nonprofit partners. In Warwick, the Bank’s three branches—Centerville Road, Buttonwoods, and Warwick Avenue—have partnered with House of Hope.
Bank customers and members of the community are encouraged to visit their local branch to select an ornament and provide that child with a gift for the holidays. Donors may then return to their local branch to place the unwrapped gifts beneath the Holiday Giving Tree.
“The Holiday Giving Tree is not only part of BankRI’s long-standing tradition of community involvement, it’s an effort that our customers and staff look forward to each year as a way to help those less fortunate,” said Mark J. Meiklejohn, president and CEO of BankRI. “At BankRI, we truly believe that it is better to give than to receive, and when I think about the number of gifts this program has provided over the years, I can’t help but be in awe of the community’s generosity.”
