Barbara A. (Feeney) Nelson, R.N., age 85, of Spencer Woods Drive, Warwick, died on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence.

Born in Johnston, the daughter of the late Lawrence E. and Mary T. (Marnane) Feeney, she lived in Warwick for most of her life. She was a 1952 graduate of Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing, and earned a bachelor’s degree in health care administration from Providence College. Mrs. Nelson was employed as a registered nurse at Rhode Island Hospital for 38 years, retiring in 1995. She was a member of the Rhode Island Hospital Nurses’ Alumni Association and the Rhode Island Hospital Guild. She was a former member of the board of directors of the Lucy C. Ayers Foundation, and served as a docent at the Gilbert Stuart Museum in Saunderstown.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda A. Nelson of Warwick and Cynthia A. Nelson Marr, and her husband, Alexander, of Westmont, NJ; two granddaughters, Andrea C. Marr and Melissa A. Marr; a son-in-law, John W. Fisher of Zephyr Hills, FL; and a daughter-in-law, Jerri L. Jaffa of North Kingstown. She was the former wife of the late Andrew B. Nelson, the mother of the late Andrew B. Nelson, Jr. and Gail A. Fisher; and the sister of the late Lawrence E. Feeney, Jr., Francis Feeney, and Gerald C. Feeney.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 14, at 9 a.m. from the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Benedict Church, 135 Beach Avenue, Warwick. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
