Barbara L. (Walander) Baynes, 86, of Warwick passed away on August 2, 2013 at home. She was the wife of the late John T. Baynes.

Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Edwin and Anne Marie (McNeil) Walander. Mrs. Baynes was a bookkeeper for Kelly & Picerne until her retirement. She was a communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Warwick where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was an avid and accomplished golfer.

She was the beloved mother of Chief Andrew J. Baynes and his wife, Anne of North Providence, John T. Baynes (Lt. Col. U.S.A.F. Ret.) and his wife, Theresa of O’Fallon, Illinois, Deborah A. Baker and her husband Walter of Athens, Georgia and Dr. Dianne M. Baynes and her husband, Stephen Kier of Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Loving sister of her twin Bernice Barnes of San Pedro, California and Mildred Hightower of White House, Texas. Cherished grandmother of four; and great-grandmother of one.

Her funeral will be held on Monday, August 19, 2013 at 9:15 a.m. from The Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Warwick (Exit 12A on I-95) with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 3250 Post Road, Warwick. Burial will follow in Rhode Island Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Sunday from 4-8 p.m.
