One of Rhode Island’s own, former Bishop Hendricken standout Billy Baron, is up for the 2014 Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year Award, and voters will help determine his fate.

The award is given to the nation’s best college point guard by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

“The 24 athletes on this list represent the most committed, determined and skillful point guards in college basketball,” John L. Doleva, Present and CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame said in a release. “We are honored to be recognizing their strengths and are excited to move forward in the selection process.”

Baron, of East Greenwich, R.I., is ranked third in the nation in scoring at 24.6 points per game for Canisius College. Among the candidates along with Baron include Oklahoma State’s Marcus Smart and Ohio State’s Aaron Craft.
