Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State (BBBSOS) has once again joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Occurring this year on December 1, #GivingTuesday is held on the Tuesday after Black Friday to inspire people to improve their local communities and to give back in impactful ways.

BBBSOS is celebrating #GivingTuesday this year at Barnes and Noble Warwick, 1350 Bald Hill Rd. December 1st from 10 a.m. 7 p.m. Barnes and Noble Warwick will donate up to 20 percent of all sales including books, toys, holiday items and even cafe items will go back to BBBSOS. (Shoppers must use code 11671864 at checkout or mention BBBSOS.)

The goal for this day is to raise $12,000 for BBBSOS Mission: providing mentors to the youth of Rhode Island who will motivate and empower them to make positive decisions, improve academic results, avoid risky behaviors and grow in a way that will positively impact our community. Donations to the Scholarship Fund will be matched dollar for dollar up to $12,000 by Founding Mother, Dr. Dorothy Pieniadz, in celebration of #GivingTuesday. The BBBSOS Scholarship Fund is used to provide scholarships for our Little Brothers and Sisters who have successfully completed high school and have been accepted into college.

“Giving Tuesday brings awareness to the true meaning of the holiday season,” said Katje Afonseca, Director of Development at BBBSOS. “It’s a day to celebrate the work that charity organizations do around the country and its a great day for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State to raise funds that are critical for our mentoring programming.”
