Bonnie E. (Gibson) McCarthy, 67, passed away at home of cancer on August 12, 2013. She was the beloved wife of David A. McCarthy for 44 years.

Born in Los Angeles, California, and raised in Glastonbury, Connecticut, Bonnie was the daughter of the late Warren F. and Lucy E. (Chapin) Gibson, Sr. Bonnie graduated from the URI School of Nursing, Class of 1968. She worked at McCook Hospital in Hartford, Conn., before beginning a forty-three year career at Kent Hospital. Bonnie dedicated her life to helping others. She worked on the medical surgery floor, in the intensive care unit, and in the home care and preadmission departments at Kent. She enriched the lives of countless patients and families throughout the years. Bonnie loved sewing, cooking and gardening. She was renowned for her desserts. Bonnie and Dave traveled throughout New England and the United States in the company of wonderful friends. Bonnie was blessed with many friends and will be sorely missed.

She was the loving mother of Brian D. McCarthy of Baltimore, Maryland and Neil T. McCarthy and his wife, Laura, of Berlin, Conn.; devoted grandmother of Maeve Bonnie McCarthy; twin sister of Warren F. Gibson, Jr., of Southboro, Massachusetts, and sister of the late L. Joan DeMott. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Her funeral was held Friday, August 16, from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Gregory the Great Church, Cowesett Road, Warwick. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Coventry. Visiting hours were August 15.
