Bishop Hendricken had arguably the top line in the state this year as it delivered its first hockey title since 2011-12 with a series sweep of Mount Saint Charles.
Junior Pat Creamer was the biggest scoring threat of the trio, posting a 38-point campaign with 24 goals and 14 assists to lead all Championship Division players.
“He has that knack to be able to finish,” Bishop Hendricken head coach Jim Creamer said. “He played with Reilly Miller and Andrew Hopgood and that afforded him a lot of opportunities to score. You put him in a spot to score, he usually does.”
Creamer scored twice in the decisive Game 2 with the Mounties, providing the first and third goals for the Hawks. In Game 1, it was his tally with four minutes and 27 seconds remaining that gave Hendricken a 4-3 lead and eventually the victory.
Pat Creamer was the linchpin for Hendricken, but he would be the first person to say it was more of a team effort that brought home the trophy.
“To win a championship is so difficult and Patrick has definitely had a great career but then you look across the board and he had great teammates, great linemates,” Jim Creamer said. “It all comes together. We had great goaltending, it all has to come together.”
Jim Creamer said that it has been simple to coach his son, something he has done before at Hendricken with Matt Creamer. He said that Pat is “really coachable,” and it shows on the ice.
“It depends on the kid, and Patrick’s an easy kid to coach,” Jim Creamer said. “He’s a good teammate. It’s difficult sometimes, separating that but he’s a really teachable kid, regardless of who his coach was.”
Pat Creamer will be back for his senior season, along with fellow top-line member Andrew Hopgood, as the Hawks look to go back-to-back for the first time in nearly a decade.
“To have both of those guys back is a real comfort level for a coach,” Jim Creamer said. “They’re a couple veteran kids who have had success so that’s a great feeling.”
