Athlete of the Year - Mickenzey Pacheco, Warwick Vets

Warwick Vets senior captain Mickenzey Pacheco is this year’s Warwick Beacon Boys’ Lacrosse Player of the Year.

Pacheco made the ’Canes offense go this spring, netting 43 goals on the season – far-surpassing any other player in the city.

Vets’ win total jumped from two in 2014 to six this year thanks in large part to the leadership of Pacheco and defenseman Connor Thompson.

The two provided stability at both ends of the field.

Pacheco, in particular, will be tough to replace going forward because he accounted for nearly half of the ’Canes’ total goals on the season – 43 of the 92.

Pacheco had one of his most impressive games early in the season against Vets’ cross-town rival – Pilgrim.

The senior turned heads with a performance that featured five goals in a 12-11 win.

He also scored three goals over a 30-second span in that game towards the end of the first half, and netted the game-winner in double overtime shortly after a faceoff.

Pacheco’s scoring touch and ability to win draws was a true difference maker for Vets this spring.
