Brian Moretti Hockey Classic a success in year one, raises 7k

A capacity crowd packed into Cranston Veterans Memorial Ice Rink Saturday afternoon for the inaugural Brian Moretti Hockey Classic. The game was created to honor former Cranston High School West hockey stand-out Brian Moretti, who died in March, and to raise money for a scholarship fund that’s being started in his name. Teams of former Falcons and other local hockey players squared off on the ice, with the red squad beating the white team 8-7. Mayor Allan Fung presented a proclamation to the Moretti family declaring May 10 Brian Moretti Day in the city of Cranston. Matt Brannon, one of the organizers of the game, said the event raised close to $7,000 for the scholarship fund.
