Love can break like a flower’s stem
The petals of a flower drop one by one
Her heart is wilting inside
She sits in her room and thinks to herself
She hopes he still cares
She is drowning in her insecurity
Alone in her room where she escapes
Pulling away, pushing away, fading away
The smile on her face is almost as broken as their love
She counts the tears streaming down her beautiful face
She knows with one last look in the mirror

Alexis Manning is a freshman at Pilgrim High. Her grandmother, Jodie Sutphen, submitted hr poem to the paper. In her words, “Through her words I believe she has touched on the unspoken feelings of most girls in her age category. It is my belief that any girls reading the poem will know they are not alone as they transition from girls to teenagers.”

What a very nice poem. Good to see kids being able to express themselves in deep and meaningful ways.
