Free Winter Wear Giveaway

In observance of Buy Nothing Day, a winter wear giveaway will be held at Woodbury Union Church Nov. 25 from 10 a.m.-12 noon. Winter coats, vests, gloves, scarves and mittens will be collected from those who no longer need them and distributed to those who can use them. Donations in all sizes and in good condition are needed. Items may be dropped off at the church Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m.-12 noon or brought the day of the giveaway. Cub Scout Christmas Wreath Sale

The Cub Scouts of Pack 7 Buttonwoods will be holding their Annual Christmas Wreath Sale on Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, Nov. 25 and 26, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Sunday until 12 noon in the St. Rose of Lima School parking lot, Main Avenue. The Scouts will be selling 14-inch balsam decorated wreaths, decorated kissing balls and cemetery logs. Come out to support the Cub Scouts of Pack 7 Buttonwoods and jumpstart your holiday decorating. Free Community Lunch

A free community lunch and food pantry will be held Nov. 26 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 111 West Shore Road. Everyone is invited to participate.

Watercolor Card Making Workshop

A watercolor card making workshop will be held at the Warwick Center for the Arts, 3259 Post Road, through Nov. 26. In this afternoon watercolor painting workshop led by Aileen Quinn, participants will discover simple techniques in resourceful ways to create eye-catching greeting cards. Ordinary household items combined with watercolor paint and paper will be demonstrated and used to add bright cheer to your holiday greetings. Lunch & Learn Workshop

OSCIL, 1944 Warwick Ave., will hold a Lunch & Learn workshop Nov. 30 from 12-2 p.m. This workshop will be a hands-on sharing session, so come with your iPhone charged and share your favorite apps that assist you with daily independence/communications. This workshop assumes that you have your own device as well as have a basic understanding of downloading apps and general use of the iPhone. United Way's 211 Outreach RV will also be onsite to answer your questions on other resources and services available in Rhode Island. As part of OSCIL's outreach and community education initiative, OSCIL offers these free Lunch and Learn workshops highlighting various solutions that can increase access in your home and community. New England Amputee Association Meeting

The next New England Amputee Association meeting will be held Nov. 30 at 6:30 p.m. at Memorial Hospital Outpatient Rehabilitation, 111 Brewster St., Pawtucket. Special guest is Katarzyna Matlak, a graduate student studying industrial design at the Rhode Island School of Design working on her master’s thesis project concerning prosthetic socket as a physical and emotional tool. This is an opportunity for you to give inputs to our future designer of prosthetic sockets. Upfront with Warwick Superintendent of Schools

Norwood Neighborhood Association invites you to attend a meeting Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Norwood Boys & Girls Club, 43 Frederick St. The guest speaker is Philip Thornton, Ed.D., Superintendent of Warwick Public Schools. He will present his vision of the future of Warwick schools as we navigate through the current closing and consolidating of local schools. Plan on attending as this is important to our community and the future of Warwick’s educational system. Refreshments will be served. All are welcome. 

Holiday Meatloaf Dinner

St. Benedict Church, Parish Hall, 70 Transit St., Warwick, will have a holiday meatloaf dinner Dec. 3 at 5 p.m. Dinner will consist of salad, Fr. Roland's famous meatloaf, gravy, potato, vegetables, coffee, tea and dessert. Beer and wine will be available for a donation. Music will be provided by Joe Vono for dancing and singing. Bingo

Bingo will be held Dec. 3 at St. Kevin’s Church hall, 333 Sandy Lane, starting and ending with a $100 special. Doors open at 5 p.m., bingo starts at 6.

Christmas Celebration

The local congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1000 Narragansett Pkwy., Warwick, will hold a public open house and Christmas concert Dec. 4. The open house will begin at 6 p.m. with tours of the facility, children's Christmas activities and refreshments. Local musicians from around Rhode Island will share their talents in a Christmas concert beginning at 7:15 p.m. The live concert will be followed by a Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas concert broadcast from Salt Lake City, Utah at 8 p.m. The community is invited to attend this free, family-friendly event.

Warwick Symphony Orchestra

The Warwick Symphony Orchestra with the URI Concert Choir is coming to St. Kevin Church, 333 Sandy Lane, Warwick, Dec. 4 at 3 p.m. presenting a holiday program called "The Kingdom of This World.” The concert will feature a 40-piece orchestra and accompanying choir in a very enjoyable event. Christmas Concert

St. Kevin Church, 333 Sandy Lane, will present a Christmas concert Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. The St. Kevin Choir will team up with the choir of St. Rita for an outstanding Christmas concert with special guests Harmony Heritage (an all-women's barbershop chorus), talented soloists singing Christmas favorites and Broadway, and even Santa all the way from the North Pole. Canned Good and Clothing Drive

Norwood School, 266 Norwood Avenue, Warwick, is collecting canned goods and new hats, mittens and scarves during the month of December. The canned goods will be donated to Norwood Baptist Church and St. William’s Church. The clothing items will be donated to McAuley House. Items can be dropped off at the school.

20-Week Raffles

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 111 West Shore Road, is selling 20-week raffle tickets for $20. Drawings will be held weekly for $25 prize money with additional bonus drawings of $50, $100 and $500. The first drawing was held Oct. 31 and will run for 20 weeks. Multiple chances to win as winning tickets are put back into the pot. Tickets are available at the church Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. until noon or after any of the weekend Masses. For more information or any questions call 737-3127. All money raised helps support the Mission and Ministries of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.

Lobster Raffle

A lobster raffle will be held every Saturday through March 19 at the Warwick Firefighter’s Hall, 750 Warwick Ave. Doors open at 1 p.m., raffle starts at 1:30. There will be no raffle held Dec. 26 and Jan. 2. There is a general merchandise table, lobster and meat table, an entire dinner table, 50/50 raffles and a finale of large lobsters, a large screen TV and small electronics every week. Refreshments and lunch are available. All proceed benefit The impossible Dream and Take A Kid Fishing.

Alzheimer’s Support Group

As a caregiver for an Alzheimer’s patient, you’re all too familiar with the frustration and heartache that come from trying to stir the memory of someone you love. Physical Fitness Training

A local non-profit will bring organized basketball, nutrition education and physical fitness training to 160-200 youth in Warwick. The program will run through Feb. 28, and players only pay a $25 fee for the entire season. They are a registered 501©3 non profit, and they are currently close to capacity. Bonniedale Farm in North Scituate offers dog and cat food at no cost to struggling pet owners, hoping to provide for the animals while easing the burden on community members facing tough times. Fife and Drum Corps

The Kentish Guards Fife and Drum Corps rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Kentish Guards Armory on Pierce St. in East Greenwich. Free lessons on playing the fife are provided to men and young men interested in joining the corps.

Grief Support

Evening Counseling Available

Help for Victims of Crime

Are you a victim of physical or sexual assault, domestic violence, untreated childhood abuse, or another crime or traumatic event? Are you experiencing depression, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, increased substance use or other emotional difficulties? Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Cornerstone Church

Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences. Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources.
