Tri-City Elks

Country line dancing every Monday is suspended until further notice.

Blood drive March 7 from 9 a.m.-12 noon. Free breakfast for all those that donate blood. One pint of blood could save three lives. Come give the gift of life.

St. Patty’s Night March 14 at 7 p.m. Corned beef dinner and a performance from the DAMSHA Irish Step Dance Studio. Tickets are $15 and are available in the Lounge Monday through Thursday at 3 p.m. and Friday through Sunday at 12 noon.

Ocean State Toastmasters

Ocean State Toastmasters will hold its next meeting March 3 from 7-9 p.m. at Warwick City Hall, 3275 Post Road. Ocean State Toastmasters holds its regular meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. The club is one of some 13,500 in Toastmasters International, a nonprofit, educational organization devoted to the development of public speaking and leadership skills. Buckeye Brook Coalition Meeting

Members and friends of the Buckeye Brook Coalition are cordially invited to attend the Buckeye Brook Coalition 2015 annual meeting at the Warwick Public Library, 600 Sandy Lane, Warwick (large meeting room), March 3 from 7-8:30 p.m. The meeting will consist of opening comments, annual election of officers and directors and guest speaker program. This year’s guest speaker program covers Environmental Mitigation Programs IN THE Buckeye Brook Watershed. Speakers will cover many of the accomplishments that have been made since the founding of the Buckeye Brook Coalition.

JONAH Meat Raffle

JONAH (Join Our Neighborhood And Help) will hold a meat raffle March 5 at Meadowbrook Lanes, 2530 Warwick Ave., from 6-8 p.m. Selections of meat (steaks, chops, sausage, ham) will be raffled off to benefit JONAH. Raffle tickets are seven for $5 and can be purchased that night or ahead of time at Meadowbrook Lanes (call Rob at 527-1996). Please come for a fun night and to support JONAH.

Winter Indoor Flea Market

St. Benedict Church will be holding its annual Winter Indoor Flea Market March 7 and March 8 in the newly renovated, handicapped accessible, Parish Hall located at 70 Transit St., Warwick from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. both days. Bingo

Bingo will be held at St. Kevin’s Church hall, 333 Sandy Lane, starting with a $100 special. The special is also $100. Doors open at 5 p.m., bingo starts at 6.

International String Trio

Cut-A-Thon

A cut-a-thon to benefit Devan Sousa will be held March 8 at Allure Salon, 1171 Main Avenue.  The cut-a-thon starts promptly at 12 noon and will go until 4 p.m. They will be offering $10 wet cuts as well as $10 buzz cuts. There will also be a RI Blood Drive bus in the parking lot so people can donate blood/bone marrow the same day. If you would like to make a donation without getting a hair cut, they are collecting money now through March 8. All proceeds go to Devan Sousa. Any questions call 732-5335.

Swinging Squares of Rhode Island

Apponaug Girls 16U

Apponaug Girls 16U-Black Travel team will be holding a comedy fundraiser with Funny 4 Funds March 13 at the Warwick Knights of Columbus, 475 Sandy Lane, Warwick. Tickets are $20. The Greenwich Bay Women’s Club will be preparing for the 50th Annual Clown Town to be held March 14. Norwood Neighborhood Association

A general meeting of the Norwood Neighborhood Association will be held March 18 at 7 p.m. at the Norwood Boys & Girls Club, 43 Frederick Street. Guest speaker will be Mayor Scott Avedisian, who will provide a city and state update. Legal Barriers to Employment

Come to the JONAH Community Center, 830 Oakland Beach Ave., March 19 at 7 p.m. to learn about legal barriers to employment. Common barriers are poor credit, criminal convistins and loss of license. Ways to help are expungement of convictions; filing disputes with credit reporting agencies and creditors; reinstatement of driver’s license; and reinstatement of occupational licenses. Meet the Author: Celebrating Italian Traditions

Wildlife baby shower

The Wildlife Rehabilitators Association of RI is holding their annual Wildlife Baby Shower March 21 from 1-4 p.m. at Cold Spring Community Center, 36 Beach Street, North Kingstown. Italian Night

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church of Warwick is holding an Italian Night March 21 from 6-9:30 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 1915 West Shore Road. Dinner is sponsored by Rigatoni’s Restaurant. Menu includes calzones, salad, pasta, meatballs, sausage and peppers, bread and butter and assorted desserts. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children, and children under 5 are free. Dog-rescue fundraiser at Cowesett Inn 

The Brandi Project is a new, socially conscious business devoted to saving shelter dogs that has already raised over $24k for the dog-rescue mission. The business takes its name from Brandi, a shelter dog rescued with just hours to spare before she was to be euthanized by a shelter. TBD will officially launch with a “Black Leash Affair” fundraiser March 22 at the Cowesett Inn from 4-7 p.m. with cocktail hour, dinner, raffle and more. Men’s Senior Softball

Registration is now underway for men 57 and older to join the Warwick Senior Softball League. It is a recreational league whose priorities are fun, safety and friendly competition. You do not have to be a Warwick resident to join. All games (double headers) begin at 9 a.m. and are played at Buttonwoods City Park in Warwick on Wednesday mornings. The fee is $20. Ham Raffle

Sgt. David Langevin Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 449 will hold an Easter ham raffle March 28 at the post home, 197 Providence St., West Warwick. The raffle will begin at 7 p.m. Many prizes of Easter hams, Easter baskets, food products, household goods, gift certificates and more will be raffled. Residents living in and around Cranston can learn about their risk for cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, diabetes and other chronic, serious conditions with affordable screenings by Life Line Screening. Conimicut Spring Fling Fundraiser

Tickets are now available for the Conimicut Village Association annual Spring Fling. The event is scheduled for April 11 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Benedict’s Parish Hall.  Tickets are $24 and include dinner, dessert, music, silent auctions, raffles and door prizes. All funds pay for the flowers and flags that line West Shore Road in Conimicut Village from May through September. Moms RI

Support a new mother, share your experience and make a new friend. You can make a difference with just on hour a week. Moms for Moms RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings, and attending mom gatherings. Aphasia Conversation Group

On the second Tuesday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m., Sargent Rehabilitation Center, 800 Quaker Lane, Warwick, holds an aphasia conversation group. This group provides a supportive meeting place for people with aphasia to socialize and share their communication challenges and strategies. There is no charge for participation. Fife & Drum Corps

Join the Pawtuxet Rangers Fife & Drum Corps of Warwick and continue the great tradition of Colonial/Revolutionary history through music. Free Pet Food

Bonniedale Farm in North Scituate offers dog and cat food at no cost to struggling pet owners, hoping to provide for the animals while easing the burden on community members facing tough times. Fife and Drum Corps

The Kentish Guards Fife and Drum Corps rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Kentish Guards Armory on Pierce St. in East Greenwich. Free lessons on playing the fife are provided to men and young men interested in joining the corps.

Evening Counseling Available

If you are experiencing depression, anxiety or overwhelming stress coupled with an addiction to or dependence on drugs or alcohol, then The Kent Center’s new evening program may be right for you. The Kent Center is offering an intensive outpatient program for people battling co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders Program hours are 4:40-8 p.m., making it accessible for people who work. Help for Victims of Crime

Are you a victim of physical or sexual assault, domestic violence, untreated childhood abuse, or another crime or traumatic event? Are you experiencing depression, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, increased substance use or other emotional difficulties? Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Cornerstone Church

Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences. The groups are confidential and free of charge. For more information call Jessica at 738-1700. 

Free Health Care

Our Lady of Fatima Hospital has an outreach coordinator to assist women in getting free health care If you are between the ages of 40-64 and are underserved or uninsured, call Maria at 456-3105 for a confidential assessment. You may be eligible for free care including mammogram and gynecological care.

Old Warwick Grange #41

The Grange is a fraternal community service, non-profit organization with a special interest in rural life and the traditions of faith, patriotism, leadership and family values Grange where the whole family can go and grow Help them to help others The meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. No meetings in July or August. The Grange hall is located at 1175 West Shore Rd.

Developmental Screening 

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources.
