Tri-City Elks Car Show

Music for a Summer Night

The Apponaug Area Improvement Association presents their 6th annual Music for a Summer Night concert series on the front steps of Warwick City Hall from 6:30-8 p.m. Bring family, friends, a picnic basket and chairs. Concerts will be held Aug. 6 with the Ginny Conley Quartet; and Aug. 20 with The Greg Abate Trio. Alienated Grandparents Anonymous

Are you a grandparent who has been denied visiting your grandchildren? You are not alone. For many different reasons, many grandparents are alienated from their grandchildren; sometimes it’s a misunderstanding, sometimes a problem with an adult child. Join the Rhode Island Alienated Grandparents Anonymous, part of an international support group, whose mission is to offer support, understanding and help validate the feelings of those dealing with the issues of alienation. Interfaith Prayer Service

On Wednesday, August 12 at 7 p.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 111 West Shore Road, the newly formed People of Faith United for Justice and Peace (sponsored by St. Mark’s, St. Timothy’s, Pilgrim Lutheran and West Bay Jewish Community Center) is holding an interfaith prayer service followed by a time of fellowship and a moderated discussion of racism. Lobster Roll Dinner

Central Baptist Church, 99 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown, hosts their annual lobster roll dinner Aug. 14, serving delicious lobster rolls, clam cakes and chowder. Conimicut Summer Craft Fair

The annual Conimicut Summer Craft Fair will be held Aug. 15 at Conimicut Point Park. The fair features over 39 craft and food vendors and DJ music in addition to a mime and a playground for the kids. Conimicut Point Park is located at 1 Point Avenue and has a panoramic ocean view and beach access. The fair is open from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Free entry and free parking.

St. Mark’s Community Yard Sale

Greenwood Church Singing

Bladder Cancer Fund

A Daveyo Ostrander Bladder Cancer Fund will be held Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. at McKinley’s Pub, 1 Division St., East Greenwich, featuring a buffet and prizes. Proceeds go to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

Trout Unlimited Meeting

The Narragansett Chapter of Trout Unlimited (TU225) will host its regular monthly membership meeting Aug. 26 starting at 5 p.m. This meeting will be the last of the streamside meetings for 2015 and will be held at the RIDEM Deer Check Station in the Arcadia Management Area in Exeter. Meetings from September 2015 through April 2016 will be held at the Elks Lodge in Coventry. At the Aug. 26 meeting, TU225 members and guests will enjoy friendly fishing stories and adventures among fellow anglers. One flyfishing rod and a variety of related items will be available for bidding. Human Canvas Exhibit

“The Human Canvas: It’s All About The Tattoo” Exhibit is at the Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road, now through Aug. 28. Explore the art of the tattoo through over 25 images by artists working in various mediums such as painting, drawing, photography and sculpture. This exhibit expresses the beauty of the human figure while highlighting the striking art of tattooing. Also included are artworks from the “Station Ink” Photographic Tribute Exhibit by John Pitocco, which showcases memorial tattoos in honor of the victims and survivors of the 2003 Station Nightclub Fire. Preschool Registration

The Title I Office for Warwick Public Schools announced that preschool registration for the 2015/2016 school year has started. The preschool program is fully funded through Title I. The program will run four half days each week with a parent component every other Friday. They are offering a morning or an afternoon session. Parents are required to attend every other Friday for informative workshops to support family learning and kindergarten readiness. This program is free of charge and is offered to families living in the Oakland Beach, Lippitt, Wickes and Norwood areas. Adult Basketball Leagues

Registration is now open for Boys & Girls Clubs of Warwick adult basketball leagues. The Boys and Girls Clubs of Warwick is a premier recreational basketball league includes stats for all games in addition to shirts, college referees, message boards and convenient location. Leagues are continuous, every 15 weeks for individuals and teams alike.

Every league has a 12-game regular season schedule, plus best of three finals. League fees include jerseys. Not included are ref fees and stat-keeper fees. Come join the fun at Boys and Girls Clubs of Warwick, Norwood Branch and Oakland Beach Branch.

Moms for Moms

Support a new mother, share your experience and make a new friend. You can make a difference with just one hour a week. Moms for Moms/Families First RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings and attending mom gatherings. Evening Counseling Available

Help for Victims of Crime

Are you a victim of physical or sexual assault, domestic violence, untreated childhood abuse, or another crime or traumatic event? Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences. Free Health Care

Our Lady of Fatima Hospital has an outreach coordinator to assist women in getting free health care If you are between the ages of 40-64 and are underserved or uninsured, call Maria at 456-3105 for a confidential assessment. You may be eligible for free care including mammogram and gynecological care.

The Grange is a fraternal community service, non-profit organization with a special interest in rural life and the traditions of faith, patriotism, leadership and family values Grange where the whole family can go and grow Help them to help others The meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. No meetings in July or August. Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources.
