Tri-City Elks

Country line dancing lessons continue every Monday from 7-9 p.m. Lori Enos is the instructor, and the cost is $6 per person. Proceeds to benefit Elks Charities.

Zumba lessons continue every Tuesday from 6-7 p.m. Lorraine Blanchard is the instructor. Come and burn some calories and enjoy the fun. Cost is $6 per person.

International Arts & Crafts Festival

Come Oct. 23 (5-9 p.m.) or Oct. 24 (9 a.m.-7 p.m.) to the International Arts & Crafts Festival at Ss. Rose and Clement’s Church, 111 Long Street. RI Food Day Festival

The second RI Food Day Festival is taking place at the Alex and Ani City Center  Oct. 24 from 1-4 p.m. The goals of the festival are to promote the businesses and organizations that comprise the thriving R.I. food scene as well as to provide resources to people that need nutrition and health information. Participating organizations/businesses include Eat Drink RI, RIFPC, Farm Fresh RI, JWU Club of Culinary Excellence, Hope & Main, URI Horticulture, RI Department Education Nutrition Programs, Fit2Cook Kids, Blackbird Farm, Agraria Farm, Partnership for Providence Parks, Crave Food Services, RI Mushroom, Acacia food truck, Sante Mobile Farmhouse Café, and Hola Baked Goods. Mark Huang will give remarks and music will be provided by Butter and Peyton Judge. Block Party Health Fair

On Oct. 24 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. CCAP will be hosting a Block Party Health Fair, Celebrating 50 years of Lending a Helping Hand, at the Everett C. Wilcox building, 226 Buttonwoods Ave. They will have free health screenings, HOT 106 will be DJing the event, refreshments, face painting, balloon clowns, fun games/prizes, zumba and karate demonstrations, many free raffles with great prize give-a-ways, the Warwick Fire Department will have Smoke House there and much more.

WMOA RI Open Juried Exhibit

Warwick Museum of Art (WMOA) is pleased to present the 29th Annual RI Open Juried Exhibit now through Oct. 24. This exhibit explores an array of mediums and subject matter and features 50+ original works by 32 artists from across the region. Juror Françoise M. McAree, a renowned artist and the Fine and Applied Arts Coordinator at RISD, produces a great opportunity for local residents to get the “first look” at cutting edge artworks being produced in New England. Pumpkin Spook-Tacular

A Pumpkin Spook-Tacular will be held Oct. 24 in the center of Conimicut Village at the intersection of West Shore Road and Beach Avenue. Everyone is invited to carve a pumpkin at home and bring it to 765 West Shore Road (Friends Way parking lot) between 2-4:30 p.m. Lighting and display of the pumpkins will be from 6-9 p.m. There will be games, a scavenger hunt and treats for a ghastly good time. The event is coordinated by Woodbury Union Church and supported by the Conimicut Village Association and William Shields Post.

St. Benedict Church Italian Festival

St. Benedict’s Church is holding an Italian festival Oct. 24 at 5:30 p.m. in The Parish Center at 70 Transit St., Warwick. The center is handicapped accessible. Delicious Italian buffet dinner including but not limited to chicken parmigiana, pasta, meatballs, salad, bread and butter, coffee and dessert. Cost is $15 for adults, $10 children. Beer and wine available for a donation. Alienated Grandparents Anonymous

Are you a grandparent who has been denied visiting your grandchildren? You are not alone. For many different reasons, many grandparents are alienated from their grandchildren; sometimes it’s a misunderstanding, sometimes a problem with an adult child. Join the Rhode Island Alienated Grandparents Anonymous, part of an international support group, whose mission is to offer support, understanding and help validate the feelings of those dealing with the issues of alienation. Winman Fundraiser

The Winman PTO will be hosting a fundraiser at the Warwick Not Your Average Joe’s on the next four Tuesday’s. The dates are Oct. 27 and Nov. 3. Folks can visit for lunch or dinner, take out or dine in and can ask their server for the Winman flyer. The Winman PTO will receive 15 percent of the total check.

Warwick Municipal Retirees Association

The  Warwick Municipal Retirees Association will hold its next meeting Oct. 28 for coffee and pastry at the Pilgrim Senior Center at 10:30 a.m. At the meeting they will accept your reservation for the Christmas Luncheon on Dec. 2 at Chianti’s. Reserve your seat with a prepayment of $16. It will be fun with surprises and great prizes.  Don’t forget to pay your dues for 2016. St. Mark’s Raffle Tickets

Twenty-week raffle tickets on sale at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 111 West Shore Road, Warwick. Tickets are $20 each. All proceeds support the mission and ministry of the church. Office hours are Monday and Tuesday 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and Wednesday and Thursday 9 a.m.-12 noon. You may also call the office at 737-3127. Drawings will take place weekly from Oct. 31 until March 12. Lunch & Learn Workshop and Flu Clinic

The Ocean State Center for Independent Living (OSCIL) will be hosting a Lunch and Learn Workshop Oct. 28 from 12-2 p.m. at the OSCIL office at 1944 Warwick Avenue (the Beacon Center building). The topic of this month’s workshop is “Using a Rollator For Independence.” Dr. Polly Leonard will be discussing the advantages of assistive devices and how they can increase and or maintain independence. They will be also be hosting a flu shot clinic from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the same day. If you have not yet received your flu shot, bring your health insurance/medical card with you and a nurse will be here to administer the flu vaccine for your convenience. This workshop is part of OSCIL’s outreach and community education initiative. OSCIL offers monthly free Lunch and Learn workshops to highlight various solutions that can increase access in your home. Sip and Scribble: Adult Coloring Night

Warwick Museum of Art 3259 Post Road presents its first “Sip and Scribble: Adult Coloring Night.” Learn the coloring basics all while enjoying fine wine and light hors d’oeuvres. Tickets are $30 per person and include class and discussion, 20-page coloring book by local Illustrator Patty Martucci, colored pencils, light hors d’oeuvres, glass of wine, and non-alcoholic beverages. Cranston Senior Guild

The Cranston Senior Guild’s annual holiday party will be held Dec. 2 at West Valley Inn, 4 Blossom St., West Warwick, at 12 noon. Adult Basketball Leagues

Registration is now open for Boys & Girls Clubs of Warwick adult basketball leagues. The Boys and Girls Clubs of Warwick is a premier recreational basketball league includes stats for all games in addition to shirts, college referees, message boards and convenient location. Leagues are continuous, every 15 weeks for individuals and teams alike. Every league has a 12-game regular season schedule, plus best of three finals. League fees include jerseys. Moms for Moms

Support a new mother, share your experience and make a new friend. You can make a difference with just one hour a week. Moms for Moms/Families First RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings and attending mom gatherings. Aphasia Conversation Group

On the second Tuesday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m., Sargent Rehabilitation Center, 800 Quaker Lane, Warwick, holds an aphasia conversation group. This group provides a supportive meeting place for people with aphasia to socialize and share their communication challenges and strategies. There is no charge for participation. Fife & Drum Corps

Join the Pawtuxet Rangers Fife & Drum Corps of Warwick and continue the great tradition of Colonial/Revolutionary history through music. Free Pet Food

Bonniedale Farm in North Scituate offers dog and cat food at no cost to struggling pet owners, hoping to provide for the animals while easing the burden on community members facing tough times. Fife and Drum Corps

The Kentish Guards Fife and Drum Corps rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Kentish Guards Armory on Pierce St. in East Greenwich. Free lessons on playing the fife are provided to men and young men interested in joining the corps.

Grief Support

Evening Counseling Available

If you are experiencing depression, anxiety or overwhelming stress coupled with an addiction to or dependence on drugs or alcohol, then The Kent Center’s new evening program may be right for you. The Kent Center is offering an intensive outpatient program for people battling co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders Program hours are 4:40-8 p.m., making it accessible for people who work. Help for Victims of Crime

Are you a victim of physical or sexual assault, domestic violence, untreated childhood abuse, or another crime or traumatic event? Are you experiencing depression, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, increased substance use or other emotional difficulties? Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Cornerstone Church

Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences. The groups are confidential and free of charge. For more information call Jessica at 738-1700. 

Free Health Care

Our Lady of Fatima Hospital has an outreach coordinator to assist women in getting free health care If you are between the ages of 40-64 and are underserved or uninsured, call Maria at 456-3105 for a confidential assessment. You may be eligible for free care including mammogram and gynecological care.

Old Warwick Grange #41

The Grange is a fraternal community service, non-profit organization with a special interest in rural life and the traditions of faith, patriotism, leadership and family values Grange where the whole family can go and grow Help them to help others The meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. No meetings in July or August. The Grange hall is located at 1175 West Shore Rd.

Developmental Screening 

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources.
