Tri-City Elks

Turkey Trot Friday, Nov. 6 beginning at 6:30 p.m. There is a $10 entrance fee and will be offering open face turkey sandwiches for your money.

Neal & The Vipers with Dave Howard Nov. 13 from 8 p.m. - 12 midnight. There is a $6 donation at the door.

Country line dancing lessons continue every Monday from 7-9 p.m. Lori Enos is the instructor, and the cost is $6 per person. Proceeds to benefit Elks Charities.

Zumba lessons continue every Tuesday from 6-7 p.m. Lorraine Blanchard is the instructor. Come and burn some calories and enjoy the fun. Cost is $6 per person.

Pasta Dinner & Raffle

Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will hold its 11th Annual Pasta Dinner & Raffle Nov. 7 from 5-7 p.m. at Norwood Baptist Church, 48 Budlong Avenue, Warwick. Enjoy home cooked pasta, fresh salad, meatballs, Italian bread, dessert and more. Take a chance on a large assortment of great raffle prizes including liquor baskets, gift cards, jewelry and more. VOWS Chopstick Auction

Volunteers of Warwick Schools (VOWS) will hold its popular chopstick auction Nov. 7 at the Buttonwoods Community Center, 3027 West Shore Road. The auction begins at noon, but participants may arrive at 11:30 a.m. to take a look at what’s available. Auction items range in value from $10 to $150 and include restaurant and retail gift certificates, gift baskets and items for men, women and children. The purchase of a $20 Golden Numbered Chopstick enters participants in every drawing. You need not be present to win. Once you have purchased your Golden Numbered Chopstick you may also purchase up to five “In until you win” chopsticks for $5 each at the door the day of the event. The $5 chopsticks are entered in each drawing until a prize is won (the purchaser must be present to win). All proceeds from this event support the work of Volunteers of Warwick Schools. Bingo

Bingo will be held Nov. 7 at St. Kevin’s church hall, 333 Sandy Lane. Doors open at 5 p.m., bingo starts at 6 starting with a $100 special and the last special is $100.

Saint Timothy Open House

St. Timothy’s Church in Warwick is having an open House and ministry fair Nov. 8. It begins with a special Mass at 9:30, followed by displays of the various activities and ministries at the parish. Father Andrew Messina and other members of the parish will be available to tell you more about

St. Timothy’s and answer any questions you may have. There will also be representatives from St. Peter’s Tri-Parish School. St. Timothy’s is located at 1799 Warwick Avenue in Warwick. All are welcome.

Friends Bingo

The Friends of the Warwick Senior Center Inc. will have bingo Nov. 8 at the Pilgrim Senior Center. Doors open at 11 a.m.; please be prompt. They are collecting toiletries for the homeless. Bring a friend and have a great time.

Buttonwoods Red Hats

On Nov. 9 the Buttonwoods Red Hats will be having a game day at 1 p.m. at the Buttonwoods Community Center on West Shore Road. New members are welcome to attend. Call Mary Nolan at 941-5507.

Birthday Ball & Dinner

A birthday ball and dinner is planned on Nov. 10 at the West Valley Inn, 4 Blossom Street, West Warwick, at 6 p.m. All Marines, active, retired, former and FMF Corpsmen are invited to attend. Classic Movie Night

All You Can Eat Turkey Dinner

The First Congregational Church of Warwick, 715 Oakland Beach Ave., is having an all you can eat turkey dinner Nov. 14 from 4:30-7 p.m. Menu includes turkey, gravy, potatoes, turnip, squash, green beans, cranberry sauce, rolls & butter, homemade desserts, coffee and tea. Cost for adults is $14, children 12 years and under $5, children 5 years and under free. This supper sells out quick, so come early.

Ham & Bean Dinner

The Greater Warwick Lions Club is having a ham and bean dinner Nov. 14 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 1817 Warwick Ave. from 5-7 p.m. Cost is $10 per person, children under 10 $4. Menu includes ham, beans, cole slaw, macaroni salad, bread & butter, desserts, coffee and cold drinks. All proceeds benefit Lions Club charities. Pasta Dinner

A pasta dinner will be held Nov. 14 from 12-6 p.m. at the Oakland Beach Fireman’s Club. Tickets will be sold for $10; all the proceeds will go to the CEP Special Fund. Any donations would be appreciated. This event is hosted by Cailynn Leveillee for her senior project.

Temple Sinai Sisterhood

The Temple Sinai Sisterhood will host a fundraising activity at the Barnes and Noble bookstore Nov. 15 at 1350 Bald Hill Road in Warwick from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Shoppers will be able to purchase a voucher from members of the Sisterhood at the bookstore, and a portion of the net sale will be contributed to Temple Sinai.

Gorton High School

Monthly Luncheon

The Gorton High School monthly luncheon will be held Nov. 18 (postponed from Veterans Day, Nov. 11) at Sam’s Inn, 2227 West Shore Road, Warwick, at 12 noon.  Cost is $16. All Gorton High School classmates from 1941- 1955, spouses and friends are welcome. Bake Sale to Help

Homeless Cats and Dogs

Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will hold its annual fall bake sale Nov. 21 at the Warwick Mall Community Booth, 400 Bald Hill Road, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Homemade pies, cakes, cupcakes, cookies, sweets etc. for people and homemade dog treats will be for sale. Also dog coats, dog beds and other animal related apparel will be available for purchase. Donations of baked goods will be accepted the morning of the sale at the Community Booth, located at the mall entrance to JC Penney. For more information call 467-2692 or 738-6322. All proceeds will benefit the homeless cats and dogs waiting for adoption at the Warwick Animal Shelter.

Fall Festival

Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 1817 Warwick Ave., is having a fall festival Nov. 21 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. featuring new and used treasures, books galore, handmade knitted and crocheted items, baked good and more. Come for lunch and buy a raffle ticket for great prizes.

Coat Drive

The Warwick Teachers Union is holding a coat drive through Nov. 25 to benefit Warwick families. They are collecting clean, gently used coats, hats, gloves and mittens to help neighbors and community. Collection boxes will be in every Warwick public school and the Warwick Teachers Union, 585 Jefferson Blvd., Warwick.

Fire Victims Fundraiser

A fundraiser to benefit the victims of the Four Seasons South fire will be held Dec. 2 from 6-10 p.m. at the Tri-City Elks Lodge on West Shore Road. The evening will include raffles, music and food. A donation of $15 at the door is requested. The fire started by a faulty exterior electrical box damaged 24 apartment units in the early morning hours of Sept. 19. Many tenants did not have insurance and lost their belongings, but fortunately there were no injuries. The Nelsons, one of those families that were burned out, are planning the fundraiser.

Cranston Senior Guild

The Cranston Senior Guild’s annual holiday party will be held Dec. 2 at West Valley Inn, 4 Blossom St., West Warwick, at 12 noon. Cost of the lunch is $21, which includes soup, salad, pasta, entree and dessert. Following the lunch there will be entertainment and a raffle. Men and women 55-plus are welcome to join the Senior Guild.  Reservations for the lunch must be made by Nov. 20. Support a new mother, share your experience and make a new friend. You can make a difference with just one hour a week. Moms for Moms/Families First RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings and attending mom gatherings. On the second Tuesday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m., Sargent Rehabilitation Center, 800 Quaker Lane, Warwick, holds an aphasia conversation group. Join the Pawtuxet Rangers Fife & Drum Corps of Warwick and continue the great tradition of Colonial/Revolutionary history through music. Bonniedale Farm in North Scituate offers dog and cat food at no cost to struggling pet owners, hoping to provide for the animals while easing the burden on community members facing tough times. Fife and Drum Corps

The Kentish Guards Fife and Drum Corps rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Kentish Guards Armory on Pierce St. in East Greenwich. Free lessons on playing the fife are provided to men and young men interested in joining the corps.

Evening Counseling Available

Help for Victims of Crime

Are you a victim of physical or sexual assault, domestic violence, untreated childhood abuse, or another crime or traumatic event? Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Cornerstone Church

Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences. Free Health Care

Our Lady of Fatima Hospital has an outreach coordinator to assist women in getting free health care If you are between the ages of 40-64 and are underserved or uninsured, call Maria at 456-3105 for a confidential assessment. You may be eligible for free care including mammogram and gynecological care.

Old Warwick Grange #41

The Grange is a fraternal community service, non-profit organization with a special interest in rural life and the traditions of faith, patriotism, leadership and family values Grange where the whole family can go and grow Help them to help others The meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. No meetings in July or August. The Grange hall is located at 1175 West Shore Rd.

Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources.
