Tri-City Elks

Dan & Hawk’s Thanksgiving Eve Gobbler featuring “Teezer Band” Nov. 25 at 9:30 p.m. Cost is $5 at the door.

Country line dancing lessons continue every Monday from 7-9 p.m. Lori Enos is the instructor, and the cost is $6 per person. Proceeds to benefit Elks Charities.

Zumba lessons continue every Tuesday from 6-7 p.m. Lorraine Blanchard is the instructor. Come and burn some calories and enjoy the fun. Cost is $6 per person.

Interfaith Thanksgiving Service

Interfaith Thanksgiving Service will be held Nov. 24 at 7 p.m. at Pilgrim Lutheran Church on Warwick Avenue. This service is sponsored by Pilgrim Lutheran Church, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, St. Timothy Church and the West Bay Community Jewish Center. Please bring a nonperishable food item. Sampson AFB Meeting

Coat Drive

The Warwick Teachers Union is holding a coat drive through Nov. 25 to benefit Warwick families. They are collecting clean, gently used coats, hats, gloves and mittens to help neighbors and community. Collection boxes will be in every Warwick public school and the Warwick Teachers Union, 585 Jefferson Blvd., Warwick.

Wreath Sale

The Cub Scouts of Pack 7 Buttonwoods will be holding its annual Christmas wreath sale this weekend, Black Friday and Saturday, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the St. Rose School parking lot on Main Ave. and Sunday 8 a.m. until they are sold out.

Three Card Mel

Beginning Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. and continuing through Feb. 5 (except Dec. 25 and Jan. 1), American Legion Post 43, 662 West Shore Road, will hold a Three Card Mel meat raffle.

Free Winter Wear Giveaway

In observance of Buy Nothing Day, a winter wear giveaway will be held at Woodbury Union Church Nov. 27 from 10 a.m.-12 noon. Winter coats, vests, gloves, scarves and mittens will be collected from those who no longer need them and distributed to those who can use them. Donations in all sizes and in good condition are needed. Items may be dropped off at the church Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m.-12 noon or brought the day of the giveaway. Free Community Lunch

A free community lunch and food pantry will be held Nov. 28 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 111 West Shore Road, Warwick. Everyone is invited to participate.

Pet Photos with Santa

Fido and Fluffy are excited for Christmas, too! Bring them to Critter Hut, North Kingstown, Nov. 28 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. for photos with Santa. Your photo purchase from Animal Reflections Photography also will benefit the East Greenwich Animal Protection League. Pick up the 2016 EGAPL calendar, plus handmade toys and holiday bandannas. All animals, in addition to cats and dogs, are welcome. Critter Hut is located at 6637 Post Road, North Kingstown.

New England Steel Guitar

New England Steel Guitar will feature Al Carter and the Nashville Boys Nov. 29 from 1-5 p.m. and Mickie Lee Marshall Dec. 13 from 1-5 p.m. Both performances will be at Post 15, East Greenwich.

Fire Victims Fundraiser

A fundraiser to benefit the victims of the Four Seasons South fire will be held Dec. 2 from 6-10 p.m. at the Tri-City Elks Lodge on West Shore Road. The evening will include raffles, music and food. A donation of $15 at the door is requested. The fire started by a faulty exterior electrical box damaged 24 apartment units in the early morning hours of Sept. 19. Many tenants did not have insurance and lost their belongings, but fortunately there were no injuries. The Nelsons, one of those families that were burned out, are planning the fundraiser.

Cranston Senior Guild

The Cranston Senior Guild’s annual holiday party will be held Dec. 2 at West Valley Inn, 4 Blossom St., West Warwick, at 12 noon. Cost of the lunch is $21, which includes soup, salad, pasta, entree and dessert. Following the lunch there will be entertainment and a raffle. Men and women 55-plus are welcome to join the Senior Guild.  Reservations for the lunch must be made by Nov. 20. Holiday Open House

Hillsgrove House, a healthy environment for adults who struggle with mental illnesses, is having a holiday open house and art sale Dec. 3 from 3-6 p.m. at 70 Minnesota Ave., Warwick. Crafting to Support Homeless Animals

The 3rd Annual Crafting for Critters Christmas Craft Fair and Bake Sale will be held Dec. 5, 2015 at the Buttonwoods Community Center, 3027 West Shore Road, Warwick, RI 02886-7546 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

 

Warwick Animal Shelter Fundraiser

Hosted by Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter, over 40 vendors will be gathered under one roof selling their wares just in time for Christmas. Products for sale include stained glass, Silpada jewelry, hand knit accessories, handmade chocolates, photography, handmade candles, crafts for animal lovers, handcrafted jewelry, essential oils and soaps, Wildtree herbs, Pampered Chef house wares, baked goods, all natural dog treats, clothing, books and much more. Christmas Fair

Central Baptist Church will hold its annual Christmas Fair Dec. 5 from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. with a variety of items for sale, including fresh wreaths, jewelry, baked goods, knitted items, gift baskets, Christmas ornaments, candles and decorator items. There will be a silent auction and Fair Trade Winds will have their products for sale. Warwick Figure Skaters Registration

Warwick Figure Skaters will hold a mid-season open  registration for their fall-winter programs Dec. 12 from 1-3 in Thayer Arena and Dec. 13 from 1-3 in Warburton Arena (back rink), 975 Sandy Lane, Warwick. Their learn to skate group lesson programs taught by professional instructors will begin Jan. 2 and end Feb. 28 (nine weeks). Weekly Meat Raffle

The West Bay Anglers are having a meat and lobster raffle every Saturday until March 2016 from 1-3:45 p.m. a the Warwick Firefighters Hall. They have a general table, a meat & lobster table, a special table and a TV & lobster table. There will be a 50/50 money raffle and two or three money raffles. Their two charities are R.I. Family Performance Series

Moms for Moms

Support a new mother, share your experience and make a new friend. You can make a difference with just one hour a week. Moms for Moms/Families First RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings and attending mom gatherings. Aphasia Conversation Group

On the second Tuesday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m., Sargent Rehabilitation Center, 800 Quaker Lane, Warwick, holds an aphasia conversation group. Join the Pawtuxet Rangers Fife & Drum Corps of Warwick and continue the great tradition of Colonial/Revolutionary history through music. Bonniedale Farm in North Scituate offers dog and cat food at no cost to struggling pet owners, hoping to provide for the animals while easing the burden on community members facing tough times. Fife and Drum Corps

The Kentish Guards Fife and Drum Corps rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Kentish Guards Armory on Pierce St. in East Greenwich. Free lessons on playing the fife are provided to men and young men interested in joining the corps.

Evening Counseling Available

Help for Victims of Crime

Are you a victim of physical or sexual assault, domestic violence, untreated childhood abuse, or another crime or traumatic event? Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences. Free Health Care

Our Lady of Fatima Hospital has an outreach coordinator to assist women in getting free health care If you are between the ages of 40-64 and are underserved or uninsured, call Maria at 456-3105 for a confidential assessment. You may be eligible for free care including mammogram and gynecological care.

Old Warwick Grange #41

The Grange is a fraternal community service, non-profit organization with a special interest in rural life and the traditions of faith, patriotism, leadership and family values Grange where the whole family can go and grow Help them to help others The meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. No meetings in July or August. The Grange hall is located at 1175 West Shore Rd.

Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources.
