Tri-City Elks

Car Show continues every Thursday evening at 5 p.m. in the back of the Lodge near the Tiki Bar. Come show off your car. There is a wall plaque awarded to the owner of the most popular vehicle of the evening. Music is provided for your enjoyment by Bob Caramante. Have a cold beverage at the Tiki Bar, listen to the music, and have something good to eat from the grill.

Zumba lessons will be held on Tuesday evenings from 6-7 p.m. Cost is $6 per person and the instructor is Lorraine Blanchard. Come burn off some calories while having fun doing it.

Halfway to St. Patrick's Day

Looking For Crafters

Community Lunch

A free community lunch and food pantry will be held Sept. 24 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 111 West Shore Road, Warwick. Everyone is invited to participate.

Bingo

St. Benedict Circle #423, Daughters of Isabella, will hold their annual bingo Sept. 24 at 12:30 p.m. in the St. Benedict Parish Hall. Admission is $10, which includes 15 bingo games plus dessert and coffee. Raffle tickets will be on sale for $1 each or $5 for six tickets, with many chances to win.

Variety Show

The 13th annual Thompson Memorial Variety Show will be held Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. at Woodbury Union Church, corner of West Shore Road and Beach Ave. Come and enjoy a night of comedy and song unlike anything you’ve seen before. Tickets are $10 each, with children 12 and under free. This year’s proceeds will go to two worthy charities, Best Buddies RI and Let’s Read RI. Both charities have websites where you can get more information on what they do. Refreshments will follow the show.

Flea Market

Warwick Figure Skaters

Warwick Figure Skaters will hold open registration for their fall-winter programs Sept. 24 from 12-2 p.m. at Thayer Arena, 975 Sandy Lane, Warwick. Their learn to skate group lesson programs taught by professional instructors will begin Oct. 15 for 17 weeks. Warwick Figure Skaters is a non-profit founded in 1970. Barbecue Fundraiser

Greenwood Volunteer Fire Co. 1 presents a Texas Roadhouse Barbecue Fundraiser Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. at 45 Kernick St., Warwick. Cost is $25 per ticket, which includes a Texas Roadhouse barbecue, beer, wine, soft drinks and dessert. There will be raffles, door prizes, Warwick Fire Department demos and live music from Blackstrap Molasses. New England Amputee Association

Trout Unlimited

The Narragansett Chapter of Trout Unlimited (TU225) will host its regular monthly membership meeting Sept. 28 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Coventry/West Greenwich Elks Lodge #2285, 42 Nooseneck Hill Road (Rte. 3, Exit 6 off Rte. 95), West Greenwich. This will be the first indoor meeting for TU225 for the fall 2016/winter 2017 season. As a follow-up to his presentation last year on the minor factors that can make a big difference in your fishing results, Steve Culton returns to describe the next higher level of factors that can make a big difference in your fishing experience and results in his presentation "The Little Things 2.0.” Steve is an experienced fly fishing guide, professional fly tyer and freelance writer from neighboring Connecticut, and his passions include fishing for trout, stripers, steelhead and in small streams with wild brookie populations. Networking starts about 6 p.m. and, following a short business meeting, the presentation will start about 7 p.m. with questions and answers to follow. Pumpkin Patch

The Pumpkin Patch will be open Oct. 1-31 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 111 West Shore Road. Pumpkins will be sold Mondays through Fridays, 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Saturdays, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Pumpkins sold by size. Major credit cards are accepted.

Physical Fitness Training

A local non-profit will bring organized basketball, nutrition education and physical fitness training to 160-200 youth in Warwick. The program will run from Oct. 1 through Feb. 28, and players only pay a $25 fee for the entire season. They are a registered 501(c)3 non profit, and they are currently close to capacity. St. Rita's Autumn Bazaar

The St. Rita's Women's Club is hosting the annual St. Rita's Bazaar Oct. 1 at the Williams Shields Post #43, 662 West Shore Road, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Vendors will feature custom crafts plus there is a penny social, 50/50 raffle, baked goods and hundreds of handmade crafts. Vendors/Crafters Wanter

The West Warwick Angels Caring for Animals is looking for vendors and crafters for their annual holiday bazaar on Nov. 5 at the Church of the Apostles, 170 Fairview Ave., Coventry. Cranston Seniors Schedule Activities

Cranston Senior Guild’s next meeting will take place Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. at Tamarisk Assisted Living, 3 Shalom Drive, Warwick. The versatile J. Ferguson, aka BIG J. Slick, will have us tapping our toes and clapping our hands with his entertaining music and songs. Following the entertainment there will be a short meeting, refreshments and a raffle. All men and women age 55 years plus are welcome to join. Cranston residency is not required.

A bus trip to Foxwoods is planned for Nov. 9. The cost of the trip is $23 per person. The price includes roundtrip motor coach bus, free buffet or $10 food coupon to any restaurant at the casino, and $10 bonus slot play. The bus makes two pickups: 9 a.m. at the Dwares JCC, 401 Elmgrove Ave., Providence, and 9:15 a.m. at Rhode Island Mall near Sears Auto Center. State Grange Annual Session

The 130th Annual Session of the Rhode Island State Grange will be held Oct. 6-8 at the Radisson Hotel,

2081 Post Road. Each day will begin at 8:30 a.m. There will be a special guest representing the National Grange at this session. The State Grange Session is open to all local 4th Degree Grange members with the exception of the first day, Oct. 6, when the Grange is open in the 6th Degree and lowered to the 4th Degree and the conferral of the 6th Degree on Thursday evening. Reports and awards will be given by various Granges around the state. There will be election of the state Grange officers on Oct. 7, with installation of officers taking place Oct. 8.

Heritage Fall Festival 

Heritage Christian Fellowship will conduct its first annual Fall Festival Oct. 8 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. There will be games, hayrides and a super-sized bounce house. In addition, a craft show and bake sale will be held inside the education building. Hot dogs, pizza and popcorn will also be available. Dave Howard of Neil and the Vipers will be performing throughout the day. The proceeds from the festival will go to support the work of Cornerstone Adult Services and the Warwick Neck Improvement Association as well as the renovation fund for the historic church building.

Bingo

Bingo will be held Oct. 8 in the St. Kevin’s Church hall, 333 Sandy Lane, starting and ending with a $100 special. Doors open at 5 p.m., bingo starts at 6.

Country & Western Night

The Oakland Beach Volunteer Fire Company is hosting a Country & Western Night Oct. 14, with dinner starting at 7 p.m. Menu includes ribs, corn bread and beans. Music will be provided by the Rhode Island Rednecks. There will be raffles and a best western attire prize. Tickets are $25 per person; see Mel or a bartender.

Living Rosary for Peace

St. Benedict Circle #423, Daughters of Isabella, will be having a Living Rosary for Peace Oct. 15 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Benedict Church, 135 Beach Ave., Warwick. Turkey Supper

Norwood Baptist Church, 48 Budlong Ave., Warwick, is holding their 64th Annual Turkey Supper Oct. 15. Chopstick Auction

The Oakland Beach Volunteer Women’s Auxiliary will have their annual chopstick auction Oct. 22. Doors open at 12 noon, the auction starts at 1 p.m. A chopstick for $10 will get you in all the drawings. They can be purchased at the door. Hotdogs, pizza and pastry will be available to purchase, along with a cash bar. Must be 18 or older.

Family Harvest Dinner Dance

William Shields Jr. Post 43 American Legion, 662 West Shore Road, is having a family harvest sinner dance Oct. 22 from 6-11 p.m. Menu includes complete roast pork dinner, fall vegetables, cider, coffee and dessert. Warwick Ghost Tours

The Warwick Center for the Arts, 3259 Post Road, is bringing back the Warwick Ghost Tours Oct. 29. Fife and Drum Corps

The Kentish Guards Fife and Drum Corps rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Kentish Guards Armory on Pierce St. in East Greenwich. Free lessons on playing the fife are provided to men and young men interested in joining the corps.

Are you a victim of physical or sexual assault, domestic violence, untreated childhood abuse, or another crime or traumatic event? Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Cornerstone Church

Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences. The groups are confidential and free of charge. For more information call Jessica at 738-1700.

Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child's development and offers information about community resources.
