Pilgrim Senior Center Events

The Pilgrim Senior Enrichment Center, located at 27 Pilgrim Parkway, offers educational, nutritional and recreational programs to folks 55 years of age and older. The center is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

There will be no bingo Thursday, March 14.

The center will be closed at noon Friday, March 29.

AARP Income Tax Preparation

Trained AARP volunteers will be at the center to help seniors and low income individuals with income tax filing. Appointments are necessary by calling the Welcome Desk at 468-4071. Appointments are on Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. until April 12 and will be filed electronically. There is not an option for paper filing this year at the center.

Property Tax Relief

If you need assistance with preparing the 1040H form for Property Tax Relief, you can schedule an appointment with Kim at 468-4500. She will inform you of what paperwork to bring at the time of the appointment.

Zumba Gold

Have some fun with exercise and join the party. Zumba is a Latin-inspired, dance fitness class that incorporates international and Latin music with freeing, stress-relieving movements. It is great for the mind, body and soul; any age or fitness level is welcome. This class is held Tuesday mornings at 8:50 a.m. and the fee is $3 per class.

Zumba/Toning

This is a Zumba class using weights for toning and is held on Mondays at 6 p.m. and the fee is $45 for a 10-week session. You can register and pre-pay at the welcome desk. For more information call Holly at 468-4074.

Irish Songs & Stories

March 14 1:30-2:30 p.m. Tickets are $3 and available at the Welcome Desk. Desserts and beverages will be served.

CPR CLASS, Buttonwoods Community Center, March 19 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Free Trial Meditation Program, March 19 from 2:30-3:30. Come to this very relaxed program and learn about the health and wellness benefits that can be gained from this age old practice of meditation.No prior experience is needed. Please wear comfortable clothing. Bring a yoga mat or cushion to sit on if you would like. It is not necessary to come to the floor. Your practice can be in a chair. Linda Morse has been teaching yoga and meditation for over fifteen years. Her relaxed and humorous approach creates a safe and enjoyable setting. Register at the welcome desk for this free class. A Matter of Balance, Mondays beginning March 25 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Any older adults concerned about falls, has fallen in the past and/or anyone interested in improving balance, flexibility and strength should register now for this award winning nine-session program designed to help you manage falls and increase activity levels. Historical Society

The Warwick Historical Society meets weekly at the John Waterman Arnold House on Roger Williams Circle Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and every second Saturday of the month at 11 a.m-2 p.m. All are welcome and urged to become member and volunteer. 2013 Wednesday Senior Softball

Registration is now underway for those 57 and over to join a recreational slow-pitch softball league. All games are played at City Park in Warwick on Wednesday mornings. You do not have to be a resident of Warwick to join. The application fee is $20. Deadline for registration is March 15. The playing season is May through September. Damhsa Irish Step Dance

The Trudeau Memorial Center welcomes back Damhsa Irish Step Dance March 15 at 10:30 a.m. in the Larkin Recreational Building, with special guests Jimmy Desrosiers, pianist, Jay Brunelle, entertainer, Dr. Timothy Hudyncia, unicyclist and juggler, Alexandra and Nathaniel Nichols, violinist and guitarist, and Michael Stone, bagpiper. There will also be face painting with Donna Lepore and sound system by Vito Georgio.

There will be a St. Patrick’s and St. Joseph’s celebration Saturday, March 16 at St. Clement Church, 111 Long St. Irish/Italian buffet will be served with dancing and traditional music for the day. Swinging Squares

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in the William Shields Post #43 lounge March 17. Dave Maher will be performing between 1-4 p.m. and corned beef sandwiches will be available. The Post is located at 662 West Shore Road.

Warwick Animal Shelter

The Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will hold their general meeting March 19 at the Warwick Public Library on Sandy Lane starting at 6:30 p.m. They will be finalizing plans for a breakfast on April 6. A general meeting will be held Tuesday, March 19 at 7 p.m. at the Norwood Boys & Girls Club, 43 Frederick St. Mayor Scott Avedisian will be the guest speaker and will provide an update on the Sober House Issue in Norwood along with other information on topics of interest. Toastmasters

Ocean State Toastmasters will hold its next meeting March 19 from 7-9 p.m. at Warwick City Hall, 3275 Post Road. Ocean State Toastmasters holds its regular meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. The club is one of 13,500 in Toastmasters International, a nonprofit, educational organization devoted to the development of public speaking and leadership skills. Youth Leadership Series

Love me or Leave me Alone....Are you in healthy relationships? Will be presented March 20 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the Buttonwoods Community Center, 3027 West Shore Road, Warwick, RI 02886. Love Me or Leave Me Alone is a workshop geared toward teens and those who work with teens. It is an engaging multimedia presentation by Rilwan K. Feyisitan about how to determine if you are in a healthy relationship.

The workshop is free but it is requested to pre-register at 222-5954 or deb.golding@health.ri.gov.

Woodbury

Talent Show

Woodbury Union Presbyterian Church will put on its 10th annual talent show March 23 at 7 p.m. The show will take place at the church on the corner of West Shore Road and Beach Avenue in the Conimicut section of Warwick. Tickets are available by calling the church office at 737-8232 or at the door the night of the show. As in the past the show is filled with music, comedy and fun and is well worth the $10 admission fee. This year’s proceeds will benefit the Providence Mission, a homeless shelter and soup kitchen in Providence, and Camp Wilmot, a faith-based camp in New Hampshire.

Lend A Hand

Benefit Dinner

Lend A Hand will be hosting its 6th Annual Benefit Dinner and Silent Auction March 23 at the Alpine Country Club in Cranston. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Musical entertainment by Tribeca Band, silent auction and raffles. Proceeds go towards supporting the Lend A Hand Therapeutic Riding Foundation, which provides therapy horseback riding for special needs children. Tickets are $50 per person and $25 for children under 12. For tickets visit www.LendAHandRI.org or call 465-3511.

Food Bank

Benefit Concert

The 11th Annual RI Community Bank Benefit Concert will be held on Palm Sunday, March 24, at 6:30 p.m. It will be held at Lakewood Baptist Church, 255 Atlantic Ave. Admission is at least one non-perishable food item and a free will offering will be taken.

Superchief Trio

On Friday, March 29, Superchief Trio will perform at the Tri City Elks, 1915 West Shore Road. $10 at the door. Doors open at 7 pm.  Music and dancing from 7:30-11 p.m.

CD Release Party

Tri City Elks #14, 1915 West Shore Rd., Warwick, Saturday March 30 at 8 p.m., will feature The James Montgomery Band “CD Release Party.” Tickets are $15 in advance (in the lounge), $20 at the door.

Gaspee Seniors

On April 5 the Gaspee Seniors will be meeting at the Buttonwoods Community Center, West Shore Rd. in Warwick at 1:15 p.m. The activity of the day will be horseracing. Please remember to bring quarters. New members are always welcome. Call Mary Nolan at 941-5507.
