Warwick Historical Society

The Warwick Historical Society meets weekly at the John Waterman Arnold House on Roger Williams Circle Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and every second Saturday of the month at 11 a.m.-2 p.m. All are welcome and urged to become member and volunteer. Tri City Elks Events

Join us at the Lodge for Red Sox home games April 22 and 29. Hot Dogs and apple pie will be offered from 5-7 p.m.

Bingo April 25, kitchen opens a 5 p.m. Bingo starts at 6:30.

Sixth annual fishing derby for boys & girls ages 5-12 April 26 at 7 a.m. Please stop in after 3 at the lodge and sign your kids up. Two age groups: 5-8 and 9-12. A fishing pole will be awarded to one child in each group that catches the largest fish. Bring a pole and bait. Fish weigh-in will be at 11 a.m. with hotdogs and chips following.

Roger Ceresi’s All Starz Swinging in the Spring April 26 from 8:15-11:15 a.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $10 or

$12 at the door.

Meet the State Candidates

The Warwick AARP Community Group is hosting an important event April 17 from 5-7 p.m. at the Buttonwoods Community Center. Here is your opportunity to personally meet all the statewide candidates and learn how they plan to address the issues facing Baby Boomers and beyond. This event is free and open to the public of all ages. It will be your chance to ask the question of the candidates.

Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter

The monthly meeting for Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will be held April 17 at the Pilgrim Senior Center, 27 Pilgrim Parkway (behind Benny’s on Warwick Avenue and near Pilgrim High School) at 6:30 p.m. They will report on the very successful breakfast and also finalizing plans for the craft fair to be held on May 10. Easter Egg Hunt & Breakfast

The William Shields Jr. American Legion Post #43 Ladies Auxiliary is sponsoring an Easter Egg Hunt & Breakfast April 19 from 10 a.m.-12 noon. Breakfast will consist of Ham & Eggs, Home Fries, Juice and Coffee. Cost is $10 for adults and children under 12 are admitted free. April Vacation Art Camp

Stretch your child’s imagination with new camp sessions during spring break (April 21-25) at Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road. Camp runs Monday through Friday; morning sessions are 10 a.m.-1 p.m. p.m., afternoon sessions are 1:30-4:30 for families with busy schedules. Favorites like drawing, painting, mixed media, printmaking, and clay sculpture will be offered again. New sessions include book making, cartooning, creative building, Earth Day crafts, and recycled sculpture. All sessions cost $25. Ramblin’ Red

& The Blackstone River Riders

The Trudeau Memorial Center presents Ramblin’ Red and the Blackstone River Riders April 21 at 1:15 p.m. in the cafeteria of the Patterson Building. Paying homage to the classic sounds of Roy Rogers, Bob Nolan, Patsy Montana, Hank Williams and Dale Evans, these buckaroos will surely saddle you with a smile.

Behavioral Health Board Meeting

The Kent Center Board of Directors meeting will be April 22 from 5:30-7 p.m. at 2756 Post Road, Warwick. The public is invited. The facility is handicapped accessible. If you require special accommodations or need directions call 691-6000.

East Greenwich Leisure Learning

Do you enjoy learning something new in a fun and friendly environment? East Greenwich Leisure Learning, membership organization now in its 36th year, welcomes interested adults, regardless of residency, to join them by registering for their upcoming six-week series of 12 lectures and programs The dates for the spring series are April 24 and May 1, 8 and15, with morning and afternoon presentation each day. Topics of lectures vary from the practical to the historical, especially Rhode Island history, and anything in between Programs are held at St. Luke’s Parish House on the corner of Peirce and Church Sts. The registration fee for the series is $15, and members sign up for the entire series. Pre-registration is required. Those interested may contact the registrar at 828-0978.

Dinner & Silent Auction

The Asbury UMC dinner and silent auction will be held April 26 at 6 p.m. at Lemongrass restaurant, 1138 Post Road, featuring a buffet and cash bar. Adults are $20, children $8 (under 3 free). RSVP to Deb Das at 785-0498; be sure to indicate number of adults and children attending. Payment for silent auction may be made by check.

Spring Breakfast

The First Congregational Church, 715 Oakland Beach Ave., is having their spring breakfast April 26 from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. Price for adults is $8, children 12 and under are $3, children 5 and under are free. Menu includes  scrambled eggs, bacon, pancakes, sausage, hash browns, toast, cereal, fruit cocktail, milk, juice, coffee and tea. This is an all you can eat breakfast.

Fundraiser Breakfast

The Warwick Association for Affordable Assisted Living “At Your Service” program will have a fundraiser breakfast at Dave’s Bar and Grille, 2339 Post Road, April 26 from 7:30-10 a.m., featuring eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, waffles, breads, fruit, coffee, juice, custom omelets and more. Flea Market and Bake Sale

There will be a flea market and bake sale at Sparrows Point III, 355 Hardig Road, Warwick (enter of Cowesett Rd.) April 26 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Clothing, household items, books and baked goods.

Annual Toy Yard Sale

Armenian Evangelical Church, 180 Oaklawn Ave., Cranston, is having its annual toy yard sale April 26 from 9 a.m.-12 noon. Choose from a wide selection of toys, books, games and tapes.

Edgewood Yacht Club Open House

On April 27, from 12 noon to 3 p.m., there will be an open house for Edgewood Yacht Club & Edgewood Sailing School. Learn about club membership, the new clubhouse construction and youth and adult sailing lessons. Come early to watch Sunfish racing and enjoy a bite to eat.

Warwick Women’s Club

New Art Classes for Ages 17 and Up

Jumpstart spring by adding colorful creativity to your life with art classes on Tuesday and Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road. Three-week classes are bursts of creativity that fit busy schedules. Four new classes debut this spring: Beginning Ceramics through May 1 $250 (includes all materials); Exploring Pastels May 6-22 $125 (a materials list will be emailed); Creative Drawing May 27-July 12 $125 (a materials list will be emailed); Creating Art from the Masters June 17-July 3 $125 (a materials list will be emailed). Dogpatch Fundraising Event

Dogpatch Grooming Salon will be hosting a fundraising event May 3 (rain or shine) from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.  Dogpatch is located in historic Apponaug at 99 Brownlee Blvd. Featuring more than 15 vendors tables, raffles, refreshments and much, much more. There will also be a clothing sale, which benefits the American Diabetes Association. One hundred percent of all the proceeds raised goes to charity. Come out and support them by stopping at vendor tables or trying your luck in the raffle, or simply stop by with an item needed by one of the local animal shelters. Spring Craft Fair

Just in time for Mother’s Day, Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter is hosting the 3rd Annual Crafting for Critters Spring Craft Fair and Bake Sale May 10 at the Buttonwoods Community Center, 3027 West Shore Road, Warwick, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. A wide variety of vendors will be gathered under one roof selling their wares including stained glass, Silpada jewelry, handmade candles, chocolates, crafts for animal lovers, baby gifts, original paintings, handmade jewelry, Wildtree herbs, Pampered Chef housewares, baked goods, all natural dog treats, clothing, books and more.
