On Friday, June 6, Tri-City Elks will be holding its 2nd Annual D Day Celebration to say thank you to the troops both past and present of all military branches starting at 5 p.m. The hall will be open to all veterans. Good food and plenty of it with live music. There will be a flag pole dedication ceremony to honor the men and women who lost their lives in defense of what this country stands for: freedom. Registration

The Title I Office for Warwick Public Schools announced that Preschool registration for the 2014/2015 school year has started. The preschool program is fully funded through Title I. The program will run four half days each week with a parent component every other Friday. They are offering a morning or an afternoon session to families. Parents are required to attend every other Friday for informative workshops to support family learning and kindergarten readiness. This program is free of charge and is offered to families living in the Oakland Beach, Hoxsie, Wickes and Norwood areas. Conimicut Village Memorial Bricks

The Conimicut Village Association is still accepting orders for memorial bricks. Bricks can be used to commemorate a life event or to honor a person, living or deceased. The engraved bricks are installed along the walkway at the scenic overlook at the ocean end of Beach Avenue. Art Camp

Ages 6-12 will have unique ways to explore their creativity this summer at Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road. New art sessions include comic books, oil pastels, wearable art, and art & poetry in nine lines. 7th Annual

Classic Car Show

The 7th Annual “Cause for Paws” Classic Car Show will take place June 8 at 171 Service Place, located at 171 Service Rd. (off Jefferson Blvd.), Warwick. Rain date is July 20. Antique cars, classic cars to 1989, rods, muscle cars and all-year Corvettes are invited to exhibit. Vehicle registration is from 9 a.m.-12 noon, with free goody bags and dash plaques to the first 100 entries. The entry fee is $15 per car. Spectators are free to roam the show. Enjoy oldies music by Cruisin’ Bruce Palmer. Trophies will be awarded at 2 p.m. in 28 classes, including Best of Show, Peoples Choice and Best Club Participation. There will be door prizes and raffles, including a 50/50 raffle. Bring a can of wet dog food or wet cat food for the shelter animals and receive an additional door prize ticket. Figure Skaters

Warwick Figure Skaters will hold an open registration June 14 and 15 from l2-l p.m. at Warburton Arena (back rink), 975 Sandy Lane, Warwick. Buttonwoods Crime Watch Group Meeting

Attention all Buttonwoods residents. Please join the very first Buttonwoods Crime Watch community meeting, where you will have the opportunity to meet the Buttonwoods Crime Watch Group and the district Community Police Officer, Danny Maggiacomo. East Greenwich Animal Protection League

The East Greenwich Animal Protection League will be at the Warwick Mall Community Booth for a Summer Bake Sale on June 21 from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Baked goods, dog items, including dog bandanas, stuffed toys, etc. and for your cat catnip items, toys and many more great items will be for sale.  They will also have pictures of the cats and dogs that are available for adoption as well as information about the league. Dropoff of baked goods will be June 20 at 60 Middle Road, East Greenwich, from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. or June 2 after 10 a.m. at the Warwick Mall Community Booth. EGAPL is a non-profit and all volunteer league. Three Day Sale

The Friends of the West Warwick Public Library will be holding a Books & More Bash for three days in June. Used books, CDs, DVDs and other media will be on sale for bargain prices. The dates are June 20 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., June 21 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and June 23 from 1-8 p.m. All funds raised during the book sale will go towards supporting library programs and services. St. Benedict’s Church 100th

Anniversary Gala

On Sept. 27 St. Benedict Church, 135 Beach Avenue, will be having their 100th anniversary gala. It will begin with 4 p.m. Mass and be followed by a spectacular celebration in the newly refurbished and handicapped accessible Parish Center. The church is looking for former priests, deacons, principals, nuns, teachers, students, choir members and former and present parishioners. They would like your pictures and past history to make this a memorable and uplifting event not only for the parish but also the faith community. Cruise Nights

Every Tuesday until September, the Greater Warwick Lions will be holding Cruising with the Oldies at Oakland Beach in Warwick from 4 p.m. to dusk. Sweet antique cars, DJ Dom playing the oldies, food vendors, raffles and prizes all with an ocean view. All proceeds benefit the Lions’ charities, Ronald McDonald House, children with cancer, Insight, children and adults in the community in need of glasses, scholarships awarded to Warwick students and JONAH. Internships for College Students

College students are still being interviewed for summer internships, and Warwick Museum of Art is especially interested in education majors who enjoy working with children for its Summer Art Camp, and communications majors who want real-world experience writing articles, press releases and Facebook posts. These are unpaid internships, but WMOA is participating in a state-run program that provides small stipends for students who attend out-of-state colleges.
