Summer Night Concert Series

The Apponaug Area Improvement Association presents its 4th Annual Music for a Summer Night Concert Series on the front steps of Warwick City Hall 6:30-8 p.m. The final performance will be held Aug. 21 with Ten Rod Ramblers Blues & Rock. In case of rain, concerts will be held in the Friendship Hall of Warwick Central Baptist Church Hall across from City Hall.

Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter

The monthly meeting for Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will be held Aug. 21 at the Pilgrim Senior Center, 27 Pilgrim Parkway (behind Benny’s on Warwick Avenue and near Pilgrim High School) at 6:30 p.m. They will be discussing upcoming fund-raisers. Sampson AFB Meeting

The monthly meeting for Sampson AFB Vets will be held Aug. 26 at Twin Oaks Restaurant in Cranston in Billy’s Room. Scheduled time is 1300 hours. All Air Force veterans, especially Sampson AFB vets, are welcome.

Trout Unlimited

The Narragansett Chapter of Trout Unlimited (#225) will host its regular monthly meeting Aug. 27 starting at 6 p.m. at the Arcadia Management Area Check Station, Rt. 165, Exeter. This will be the chapter’s last 2014 stream-side meeting at the check station. From September through May all meetings will be held at the Coventry Elks. Osteoarthritis Program

Are the aches and pains of osteoarthritis getting in the way of living life to the fullest? Put Pain in Its Place is a free, one-hour class that gives you the tools to manage your osteoarthritis (OA) pain and live better. Developed by the experts you trust at the Arthritis Foundation in conjunction with the National Council on Aging and sponsored by Ferring Pharmaceuticals, Inc., this program will help you understand OA, its causes and how to treat it; learn self-management strategies to prevent and relieve pain; get inspired to take action and get your pain under control; and find out about effective and safe exercises from the Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program. Cruise Nights

Every Tuesday until September, the Greater Warwick Lions will be holding Cruising with the Oldies at Oakland Beach in Warwick from 4 p.m. to dusk. Sweet antique cars, DJ Dom playing the oldies, food vendors, raffles and prizes all with an ocean view. All proceeds benefit the Lions’ charities, Ronald McDonald House, children with cancer, Insight, children and adults in the community in need of glasses, scholarships awarded to Warwick students and JONAH. Cruise Night is weather permitting; check the Warwick Lions Cruise Night website for cancellations.

Bingo

Bingo will be held Sept. 6 at St. Kevin’s Church hall, 333 Sandy Lane, starting with a $75 special, with the last special $100. Doors open at 5 p.m., bingo starts at 6.

Women Bowlers Wanted

Women’s Bowling League is looking for at least four more women bowlers. They range in age from 30-80 years old. Most are just average bowlers. They bowl at Meadowbrook Lanes in Warwick on Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m. starting Sept. 8. Swinging Squares Workshops

Swinging Squares of RI Square Dance Workshops will be held Monday nights beginning September 8 with fun night, also September 15, 22, 29 (open classes for new dancers until Oct. 6, then the class will be closed to incoming new dancers until the following year.), 7-9:30 p.m. at East Smithfield Neighborhood Center, 7 Esmond St., Smithfield.

Crafters needed for the annual Heritage Day event at the Paine House Museum located at 7 Station St., Coventry, on September 27. The price per table is $25. St. Benedict Church

100th Anniversary Gala

On Sept. 27 St. Benedict Church, 135 Beach Avenue, will be having their 100th anniversary gala. It will begin with 4 p.m. Mass and be followed by a spectacular celebration in the newly refurbished and handicapped accessible Parish Center. The church is looking for former priests, deacons, principals, nuns, teachers, students, choir members and former and present parishioners. They would like your pictures and past history to make this a memorable and uplifting event not only for the parish but also the faith community. Moms RI

Support a new mother, share your experience and make a new friend. You can make a difference with just on hour a week. Moms for Moms RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings, and attending mom gatherings. Aphasia Conversation Group

On the second Tuesday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m., Sargent Rehabilitation Center, 800 Quaker Lane, Warwick, holds an aphasia conversation group. This group provides a supportive meeting place for people with aphasia to socialize and share their communication challenges and strategies. There is no charge for participation. Join the Pawtuxet Rangers Fife & Drum Corps of Warwick and continue the great tradition of Colonial/Revolutionary history through music. Evening Counseling Available

Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences. Free Health Care

Our Lady of Fatima Hospital has an outreach coordinator to assist women in getting free health care If you are between the ages of 40-64 and are underserved or uninsured, call Maria at 456-3105 for a confidential assessment. You may be eligible for free care including mammogram and gynecological care.

Old Warwick Grange #41

The Grange is a fraternal community service, non-profit organization with a special interest in rural life and the traditions of faith, patriotism, leadership and family values Grange where the whole family can go and grow Help them to help others The meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. No meetings in July or August. Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources.
