Tri-City Elks

Autumn Beer Tasting

The Varnum Continentals’ 5th Annual Autumn Beer Tasting will take place Nov. 22 from 7-9 p.m. at the Varnum Memorial Armory, 6 Main St., East Greenwich. Proceeds benefit efforts to preserve history, promote patriotism and provide education to young people and adults alike. This event will feature a wide range of artisan beers (from pilsners to porters) from American and international craft brewers as well as light appetizers. Interfaith Prayer Service

St. Timothy’s Church, 1799 Warwick Ave., invites you to join for an interfaith prayer service Nov. 26 at 7 p.m. Members of Pilgrim Lutheran Church, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and Temple Am David also will be in attendance. Turkey Trot

Warwick Rotary and Warwick high schools are holding the Thanksgiving 5K Turkey Trot 2014 Nov. 27 at 8 a.m. at Warwick City Park ball fields. Holiday Wreath Sale

The Cub Scouts of Pack 7 Buttonwoods will be holding their annual holiday wreath sale on Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, Nov. 28 and 29, from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. in the St. Rose of Lima school parking lot of Main Ave. The Scouts will be selling 14-inch balsam-decorated wreaths, decorated kissing balls and cemetery logs. Free Winter Wear Exchange

In observance of Buy Nothing Day, a free winter wear exchange will be held at Woodbury Union Church Nov. 28 from 10 a.m.-12 noon Winter coats, vests, gloves, scarves and mittens will be collected from those who no longer need them and distributed to those who can use them. Donations in all sizes and in good condition are needed. Items may be dropped off at the church Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m.-12 noon or brought the day of the exchange. Annual Bake Sale to Help Homeless Cats and Dogs

Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will hold its annual fall bake sale on Black Friday, Nov. 28, at the Warwick Mall Community Booth, 400 Bald Hill Road, from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Homemade pies, cakes, cupcakes, cookies, sweets, etc. for people and homemade dog treats will be for sale. Also dog coats, dog beds and other apparel will be available for purchase. Donations of baked goods will be accepted the morning of the sale at the Warwick Mall Community Booth, located at the mall entrance to JC Penney. For more information call 467-2692 or 738-6322.

3 Card Mel

William Shields #43, 662 West Shore Road, will have 3 Card Mel (a variation of the winter meat raffle) every Friday night starting Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. There will be no raffle on Jan. 23, raffle resumes on Jan. 30. Everyone is welcome.

Swinging Squares

On the Street Photography Show

Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road, presents “On the Street” Photography Show & Sale now to Dec. 20 and January 5-10. Just in time for holiday shopping, the annual photography show features Warwick artists Mark Cheney, David Fleurant, Janet Moscarello, Rachel Simone, and Louise St. Pierre. Greet them at the opening reception on Dec. 3 from 6-8 p.m. and enjoy light refreshments while browsing framed photos, matted prints and note cards. Most items are priced from $5 to $300 and a portion of each sale benefits WMOA and its mission of connecting all ages to the arts. Also on display are 24 replica Rhode Island State Tree Ornaments created by Warwick youth for the National Tree Lighting in Washington, D.C. The exhibit and reception are open to the public and donations will be gratefully accepted in the gallery. Crafters for Critters

The 2nd Annual Crafting for Critters Christmas Craft Fair will be held Dec. 6 at the Buttonwoods Community Center, 3027 West Shore Road, Warwick, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Hosted by Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter, over 40 vendors will be gathered under one roof selling their wares just in time for Christmas! Pawtuxet Valley Community Chorus

Annual Holiday Concert

The Narragansett Bay Chorus will be presenting its annual holiday concert Dec. 6 at  2 p.m. at the Ocean State Theater Company, 1245 Jefferson Blvd. Joining the 15-time Northeast District Chorus Champions will be Trade Secret (international men’s senior medallists), Wake the Neighborhoods (a women’s medallists quartet), Curtain Cal (college quartet favorites) and Southeast Light (a very entertaining mixed “a cappella” quartet.) Bingo

Holiday Craft Fair

There will be a holiday craft fair Dec. 7 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Club Jogues, 184 Boston St., Coventry. There will be raffles to benefit local charities and handmade items.

JONAH Meat Raffle

Join your friends and neighbors in support of JONAH (Join Our Neighborhood And Help). On Dec. 10 JONAH will hold a meat raffle at Meadowbrook Lanes (2530 Warwick Avenue) from 6-8 p.m.  Selections of meat – steaks, chops, sausage, ham – will be raffled off to benefit JONAH. Hoxsie Dry Cleaners Events

Hoxsie Dry Cleaners, 1080 Warwick Ave., is accepting coats of all sizes for donation through Dec. 20. They will clean them at no charge and then donate them to local charities. Also, they will be accepting donations for Toys For Tots through Dec. 15.

Open Life Drawing Studio

Announcing a new opportunity to study anatomical form and structure, foreshortening and composition while drawing from live models. On Dec. 15, from 6-8:30 p.m., the main gallery at the Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Rd., Warwick, becomes a studio for those who want to try drawing from a live model, and for experienced artists who want to stretch their skills. Sessions are for ages 18+ and artists bring their own materials; there is no formal instruction. Cost per session is $8. Reserve space by Friday and pay on Monday, with plenty of free parking. Spread the word because 10+ artists are needed per session. Art Supplies Needed to Help People with Mental Illness

The Kent Center would greatly appreciate donations of used or new art supplies to stock art classes for youths, teens and adults who struggle with mental illness. Creating art reduces stress, anxiety, fears and depression in people with mental illness and raises a person’s quality of life. The Center, which helps 4,000 Rhode Islanders with mental illness each year, is in constant need of art supply donations such as crayons, markers, watercolors, acrylic paint, construction paper, pipe cleaners, fabric, buttons, coloring books, etc. Contact Sarah Channing at 738-1338 x335 for more information, or drop off tax-deductible donations at 2756 Post Road, Warwick.

Moms RI

Support a new mother, share your experience and make a new friend. You can make a difference with just on hour a week. Moms for Moms RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings, and attending mom gatherings. Aphasia Conversation Group

On the second Tuesday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m., Sargent Rehabilitation Center, 800 Quaker Lane, Warwick, holds an aphasia conversation group. This group provides a supportive meeting place for people with aphasia to socialize and share their communication challenges and strategies. There is no charge for participation. Join the Pawtuxet Rangers Fife & Drum Corps of Warwick and continue the great tradition of Colonial/Revolutionary history through music. Fife and Drum Corps

The Kentish Guards Fife and Drum Corps rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Kentish Guards Armory on Pierce St. in East Greenwich. Free lessons on playing the fife are provided to men and young men interested in joining the corps.

Grief Support

Evening Counseling Available

If you are experiencing depression, anxiety or overwhelming stress coupled with an addiction to or dependence on drugs or alcohol, then The Kent Center’s new evening program may be right for you. The Kent Center is offering an intensive outpatient program for people battling co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders Program hours are 4:40-8 p.m., making it accessible for people who work. Help for Victims of Crime

Are you a victim of physical or sexual assault, domestic violence, untreated childhood abuse, or another crime or traumatic event? Are you experiencing depression, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, increased substance use or other emotional difficulties? Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Cornerstone Church

Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences. Free Health Care

Our Lady of Fatima Hospital has an outreach coordinator to assist women in getting free health care If you are between the ages of 40-64 and are underserved or uninsured, call Maria at 456-3105 for a confidential assessment. You may be eligible for free care including mammogram and gynecological care.

Old Warwick Grange #41

The Grange is a fraternal community service, non-profit organization with a special interest in rural life and the traditions of faith, patriotism, leadership and family values Grange where the whole family can go and grow Help them to help others The meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. No meetings in July or August. The Grange hall is located at 1175 West Shore Rd.

Developmental Screening 

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources.
