Greenwich Bay Women’s Club

Usher in a new year by joining the Greenwich Bay Women’s Club at one of their meetings this year. Warwick Municipal Retirees Association

A wonderful time was had by all at the Christmas Luncheon. The room was filled to capacity with good friends, good food, laughter and joy. Trout Unlimited Meeting

The Narragansett Chapter of Trout Unlimited (TU225) will host its regular monthly meeting Jan. 28 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Coventry/West Greenwich Elks Lodge, 42 Nooseneck Hill Road (Rt. 3), West Greenwich. TU225 members and guests will be cleaning rods, reels and lines on fly gear used by RIDEM to help educate newcomers to the sport of flyfishing.  Attendees can bring one reel of their own to clean as well.  Members and guests are welcome. Soccer Club Fundraiser

The Warwick Fire Fighters Soccer Club is raising money to help build a concession stand and make improvements to new fields off Lake Shore Dr. in Warwick. WFFSC was formed in 1984 and is a non-profit, all-volunteer town club that provides an opportunity for all children to participate in organized soccer and promotes the values of good sportsmanship and fair play. The event will take place Jan. 29 from 5-8 p.m. at Moe’s Southwest Grill, 300 Quaker Lane, Warwick.

3 Card Mel

William Shields #43, 662 West Shore Road, will have 3 Card Mel (a variation of the winter meat raffle) every Friday night at 7 p.m. There will be no raffle on Jan. 23, raffle resumes on Jan. 30. Everyone is welcome.

Call For Entries

The anti-bullying organization CABINS has issued a call for digital entries from students in Rhode Island middle and high schools, supporting the theme “Random Acts of Kindness.” Winning entries will be awarded cash prizes and invitations to the group’s annual gala on March 29 at Kirkbrae Country Club, Lincoln. Entries should be sent to CABINS electronically by Feb. 6 at entry@CABINSRI.org. Students should include their names, schools and contact information along with their entries. Middle school entries should include a photograph with a quote or caption regarding acts of kindness, using Instagram, done in “meme” style. High school entries should include a 15-second video, using Instagram, supporting the contest’s theme. Videos can include a poem, song or the depiction of a random act of kindness. All entries must include original content. Plagiarism is grounds for disqualification. Entries must be accompanied by a signed release from all persons depicted in photographs or videos, allowing CABINS to use those images on its website and social media and to be displayed at future events including the annual spring gala. Students are encouraged to use the hashtag, #CABINSRI, when posting their entries through social media to help spread the theme of kindness. CABINS will hold its annual spring gala March 29 from 12:30-4:30 p.m. at Kirkbrae Country Club. Steak Fry

Saints Rose and Clement Parish will be hosting a steak fry Feb. 7 in the church hall, 111 Long St. Cocktails will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. Dinner will be steak or chicken, baked potatoes, salad, string beans and bread, with ice cream sundaes for dessert. Spaghetti Supper

The First Congregational Church of Warwick, 715 Oakland Beach Ave., is having an all you can eat spaghetti supper Feb. 14 from 4:30-7 p.m. Menu includes salad, spaghetti and meatballs, sausage, rolls, beverages and homemade desserts. Cost for adults is $9, children 6-12 is $4. Children 5 and under are free.

Hi-Lo-Jack Tournament

The Youth Department of the Rhode Island State Grange will be holding a High-Low Jack tournament Feb. 14 at 1 p.m. at Kickemuit Grange Hall, 92 Vernon St., Warren, prior to the meeting of Newport County Pomona. All Grange members and non-members are eligible to compete in this tournament. Teams must consist of two players (at least one member of the team must be a Grange member). All teams must be present by 1 p.m. for the start of the contest. February Art Camp

A new schedule of art sessions for February vacation was announced by Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road. Returning favorites include drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics and more. The camp runs Feb. 16-20 with morning and afternoon sessions for kids ages 6-12. Cost per three-hour session is $35 and there is a discount if you sign up for the whole week. Concert

A concert will be held Feb. 22 at Roger Williams Park Botanical Center from 3-5 p.m. featuring The Becky Chace Band. Listen and dance to folk, rock and blues.

Men’s Senior Softball

Registration is now underway for men 57 and older to join the Warwick Senior Softball League. It is a recreational league whose priorities are fun, safety and friendly competition. You do not have to be a Warwick resident to join. All games (double headers) begin at 9 a.m. and are played at Buttonwoods City Park in Warwick on Wednesday mornings. The fee is $20. Art Supplies Needed to Help People with Mental Illness

The Kent Center would greatly appreciate donations of used or new art supplies to stock art classes for youths, teens and adults who struggle with mental illness. Creating art reduces stress, anxiety, fears and depression in people with mental illness and raises a person’s quality of life. Moms RI

Support a new mother, share your experience and make a new friend. You can make a difference with just on hour a week. Moms for Moms RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings, and attending mom gatherings.
